Hey all,

So My grandparents want to get themselves a new car and they've liked the look of the Smart Fortwo (haven't checked it out physically yet). I was wondering if there are any alternatives I could also be looking for:

Ideally looking to spend up to 5k.

I'd like the car to be higher seated (yet smaller in length) so they can get out easier but also my grandad is a bit tall (6"1 I think). This will probably be a town runaround

Options I have looking at the moment are:

Smart fortwo
Vw up

Is there anything else I could consider and is there anything I should watch out for with these cars.

Thank you,

Edit 1: it doesn't necessarily have to be a 2 seater just a smaller car like the ones I listed.

Depends how particular your grandparents are about touchy feely plastics, but don’t discount the VAG equivalents of the Up… the Skoda is the Citigo, can’t remember the Seat’s name. Same car, lower material quality. But better value for money.

ETA - the seat is the Mii.

The Jazz is very space efficient and very reliable. Perhaps the most reliable car out.

Mrs. C had a Smart and liked it, ideal for a couple who do not need that much luggage space, who generally do short journeys.

My grandparents would take great offence if I offered up one of those as a car choice, as they've told me "they're just older than me & that doesn't mean they're not able to enjoy life" OP I'd get them the nicest small hatch you can get.

Bit of an odd suggestion.
