Hey guys,

I finally decided that it's time to get behind the wheel after being pedestrian for last two months after selling my W205 C63.

After careful consideration I decided that I want to have one of the last V8's, the raw, unapologetic, mental sledgehammers .

Budget max 30k.

Currently the list consists of

Merc C63 AMG W204 6.2 V8 (facelift 2011 to 2013)
Merc E63 AMG W212 5.5 V8 (2013 to 2015)
Merc CLS63 AMG C218 5.5 V8 (2013)

Audi RS4 B8 4.2 V8 (2012 to 2014)
Audi RS5 B8 4.2 V8 (2011 to 2015)

BMW M6 Coupe F13 4.4 V8 (2013)
BMW M6 Gran Coupe F06 4.4 V8 (2014 to 2016)

All the cars that I picked out are spread across UK, so test driving each model is almost impossible unless I want to travel the whole UK.

I'd appreciate if I could get an input of opinions of what would you buy and why, any known common faults that you know about the said cars, what is must have spec and so on.

Any input is appreciated smile

There will be lots of published group tests on subsets of these cars I would advise that you seek them out.

A lot will depend on your individual preference between RWD and AWD which is pretty fundamental regardless of other people's opinions.

As with all out of warranty performance vehicles get a professional PPI.

Firstly you have to test drive them because only you know which one suits YOU. Now finding examples near you isn't to hard if you look for a C63 & either a CLS or E Class. Same goes for the RS4/5 6/6GC you just need to experience the drive train.

That means you only need to find four cars near you rather than seven.

As for which to buy it depends on other factors, like how much space do you need as the the C Class is a bit tight for rear space.

For me the C63 is the pick add an X Pipe & a remap so you get the full 500+bhp & you'll have a proper classic on your hands with one of all time top three V8's alongside the LS7 & Voodoo V8.

If the car you're looking doesn't have the LSD then I'd say fit one as it makes a positive difference to the way the car drives.

Review of a used C63:

The RS5/4 are properly special engines & are epic when you're on it but for me they don't feel special at low speed in the way the 63 does, but the RS5 is for me the best looking on your list.

You'll want one with the Sports Diff but they're hard to find, the RS4/5 are epic when you're on it but a bit like the E90 M3 it's not quite special enough when your not.

The M6 is a weapon but for me it comes behind the E/CLS as they have punchier drivetrains if not the looks of the GC also if you're going to get a special V8 then go for an N/A one.

With that being said my two leftfield picks fit the brief well too.

Lexus RC-F these are cars that get under your skin the longer you own them the better they get.

I could not drop that sort of coin on something I hadn’t test driven.

Someone looking at those cars is clearly a petrol head otherwise they would have Nissan Juke on a lease like the rest of the A to B car users so a test drive really is essential.

I would find the nearest info this is a contender and go to take a look.

The biggest fault is that nothing on your list is even close to raw, unapologetic, or mental.

Look at TVR?
Failing that, Corvette if you don't mind LHD, VXR8, or Vantage.

Having owned Maserati V8s before I'd spend £30k on a GranTurismo.

One of our young lads took delivery of a 2013 C63 coupe about 6 weeks ago.

Black, all carbon exterior bits such as spoilers and diffuser etc, MSL tune to 530bhp, secondary decat and resonator delete.

This car is honestly just bonkers mad and the mind boggles that MB were selling this as a mainstream car!

The old fashioned genuine 4 exhaust outlets ( not peashooters going into fake housings like current ) sound absolutely amazing; loud on startup and when you fancy it, normal merc V8 when driving 'normally'.

These N/A V8's shall hold there value very well going forward.

Ours is a full main dealer service history car with 50k miles so confident miles are genuine.

Cannot recommend enough.

Our oldest lad takes delivery of an black 18 M4 comp convertible with an Akropivic exhaust this week so shall be an interesting comparison of old cool and new cool.

Lovely car the C63 but a few friends have owned them over the years and despite loving them, they said filling up the tank almost every time they went out was not uncommon. There is poor MPG and then there is the C63.

Mine averages 18mpg tank to tank, on long runs up to Newcastle/Blackpool etc then it settles at between 26-28mpg, the very worst car I've ever owned for fuel was my V10 M5 I had a 700+bhp SL55 at the same time & the M5 was still worse.
