Which Automatic (Diesel) Supermini ?
Discussion
The family company my Partner works for have offered to lease her a (basic spec) new car - It’s very much an ad hoc car policy they operate and the pretty vague list they gave her was Polo, Fiesta or 208. She is pretty sure (as long as they’re in the same price bracket) she can extend these options.
Most of her driving is on fast(ish) rural A and B roads. The only non-negotiable (for my partner) is that it has to be Automatic. She currently has a (work funded) diesel only fuel card but this is not a deal breaker. There’s no cash alternative.
So my question for the PH Hive mind is this ;
- Which of the small Superminis works best with an Auto gearbox ? And as an immediate follow up…
- Are any of the popular options just not available at the moment ?
Thanks.

I've drove the new 208 GT premium with the auto and the 130bhp engine. It belonged to my fiancées friend.
I was extremely impressed.
The quality of the interior is as high as any car I have ever been in and it really has a wow factor with all the tech.
The suspension is a bit soft which allows more body roll than you'd probably want for a proper B road weapon however it isn't a hot hatch at the end of the day. It was very comfortable I found and couldn't fault it.
They don't do the diesel in automatic however.

It'll be petrol only if it's a brand new small auto supermini:
DS3's are well worth a look, you can find pre registered examples for sensible money.

The Clio is a good pick if you want a diesel auto & it seems to tick the boxes.

Can she go to a Focus sized car? If she can her choice opens up exponentially.

MINI Cooper or Cooper S but these are petrol's.
Slim pickings on the diesel auto front -
Skoda Scala
Vx Astra
Peugeot 308
Hyundai i30
Cheers,
Chris
I wouldn’t call the Skoda Scala a supermini, it’s 4362mm long.Slim pickings on the diesel auto front -

Dare, I say it on pistonheads, but the Honda Jazz do an automatic (albeit CV auto-trans), very space efficient, and possibly the most reliable car out there (excluding a Lexus).
Again, I don’t think there will be many suitable diesel superminis worth getting.
