HPI mileage history problem on our PX valuation
Discussion
Agreed a PX deal with garage. Collected the new car.
Got a call from trader that an HPI discrepancy had flagged up, so our PX vehicle was now worth £1200 less than we had agreed.
Went back to garage and was shown the HPI report which showed a mileage discrepancy.
The trader suggested that the mileage may have been entered incorrectly during an MOT.
Nothing could be done to address the problem or amend the HPI history.
In the end we split the difference on PX value.
Any experience of this guys?
Can I prevent my new car HPI history being messed up in the future?

Is there an MOT tester on here that can comment on that?Nothing could be done to address the problem or amend the HPI history.
I'm sure I've heard of an MOT station amending a mistake.

You sir, are an honest member of society. To agree a px (which likely would have been at the dealer’s benefit) collect the car and then be asked to fork out £1200 after the event - most people would have held on to the funds and argued the toss with the dealer and HPI, whilst hanging onto the car and enjoying driving it. Good on you because what goes around, comes around.

Cheers Maz Good on you because what goes around, comes around.

Split the diffrence with dealer so it cost us 500 quid.
Still came out the other side with an excellent PX value.
One thing I've learnt in retail is to compromise.
The lesson learnt is to check DVLA MOT mileage site soon after each MOT.
If the mechanic has entered the mileage incorrectly you have 14 days to amend it.
After that its on your pride & joys HPI file for ever!

And you suffer a loss as a result of their mistake? If the mechanic has entered the mileage incorrectly you have 14 days to amend it.

I'd like to hear a legal persons view of that.
They should have given you the opportunity to rectify the discrepancy.
It happened to me, a garage was assessing my car for p/x value (as yours should have done before valuing) they ran an HPI check and found a discrepancy, so let me know. What you do then is get your own check, then call HPI to tell them of the error. In my case HPI were happy simply by me emailing them the stamped service booklet with the mileage apparent, they wiped the discrepancy flag.

Out of interest how big was the mileage discrepancy?
I see OP hasn't commented on this.On the basis the dealer reduced the part ex value presumably the cars actual mileage was higher than they originally thought or were led to believe when the original part ex value was offered.
Just wondering if the OP found out about the discrepancy at the same time as the dealer. If not maybe that was why he was willing to readily accept the lower figure.
Maybe I should mind my own business

If clarification be needed:
Dealer flagged up HPI mileage discrepancy.
Dealer stated that this cannot now be challenged.
Paid dealer £500 as a compromise.
We still got a good trade in price.
On Monday will contact HPI as we have cast iron MOT certificates and online MOT records that confirm mileages to be correct.
Will see if an appeal is possible.
