Hi All,

Hoping to get some more help please.

I’ve gone from doing 25ishK a year for work to only personal miles (5-7k a year). My project for the next couple of years is local and I can WFH, previously I was all over England.

As used car prices are going up and all the uncertainty, I am looking for a car up to around £3k. Only requirement is a manual box, can’t get on with auto and heated seats would be a bonus. I’ve looked at the following, all different:

1. Mazda NC 2.0 sport - lovely but had one In the past and worried I’m a bit tall for it now (only 6ft1).
2. Mazda 6 2.5 sport - nice drive but all available seem like they are going before I can view.
3. Mondeo Tit x - can only find the diesels and worried about my usage (do a 700 round trip every other month).
4. Astra Elite - cheap and look value for money. 1.4t looks a good engine.

I’d probably prefer a bigger car than the mx5 due to being rear ended badly two weeks ago and wanting a bit of metal around me. No real other requirements as we also have the wife’s car (thanks ZX10 from a while back).

Any other suggestions please? Just wondering if something I haven’t thought of.

Thank you

Not a million miles away from my thinking. I was doing 19kpa in a freelander 2. I’ve now moved closer to my daughter, and been told I can work from home for ever. I have an Elise for fun, and thinking of changing the Freelander for a city car.

My dad has a Citigo, which I’ve driven several times. It’s great, and reminds me of my first car.

Im interest in this thread.
I'm also wfh and have covered 2800 miles between the last MOTs. The car is worth about 3k and ive had it 6 years. A Suzuki swift sport. I normally change cars after 1 or 2 years but just can't bring myself to do it.

We also have another family car so ive toyed with having 1 car or swapping it for something stupid that won't depreciate (Westfield) - not sure that would be suitable enough.

Head says keep it longer. Heart says move on.

Heart does say be silly and get a fun car!

Head says since the crash, replace it with a sensible car.

Big old Volvo. Nice place to be, nice engines, heated seats, smooth and comfy. Still look good at any age, and you should get a decent one for £3000, maybe a bit older than others, but you'll never notice. I'd go for a V70 because I like an estate, but plenty to choose from whatever your preference.

S60 2.0T/2.5T or Saab 9-3 2.0T/2.3T - £3k gets you a very nice example of either.

Cheers,

Just an extra note on the Mx5. I'm 6ft3 with an NC and the fit is quite snug but not unbearable (only with the roof up). There is a metal bar across the roof that catches me out sometimes...
