First Car with Pop Up Headlights?
Discussion
I'd like to buy my first car. I have a budget of around £3500. Clearly I'd like it to have pop up headlights, I would like it to have at least 100bhp, and I would like ideally around 40MPG. I would love to be able to modify the car I buy, but the cost of insurance jumps from around £500 to in excess of £2000 when I start listing mods. Cars which I have considered are Mazda MX-5s NA and Toyota MR-2s. Is there any other cheap fun cars with pop up headlights?
Not many about now, but i had a Volvo 480 turbo back when i was a youth. That had great lights, you could turn on the side lights, DRL's, main beams, dipped beams, and fogs all at the same time.

I loved my MR2. It is amazing how often you let someone out at junctions etc just so you can flip the lights......
I've had a look for MR-2 MK2s in my area. There only seems to be two. Both are a bit to expensive. One is at 4k and the advert clearly states they won't take much less than that.I really would like pop ups, but I do worry that buying such an old car for a first car would be a mistake as I don't have any experience fixing cars.

There was a car on SOS/wheeler dealers , one or the other , that had rotating popups , brain fade at present
Rotating which way?For example, older Corvettes rotate longitudinally, whereas the Opel GT has them rotate transversely.
Just found it

Longitudinally . as in stand at front of car and imagine holding the lamps and rotating with your wrist , it was a mechanical system with a knob on dash .

Ah, we were talking at cross purposes, when I said longitudinally, I meant the movement is fore/aft (so the axis of rotation runs transversely), whereas you meant the axis of rotation is what is longitudinal.Just found it

All these suggestions are fantastic, but I worry they are not very suitable for a first car, as they are so old.
I just love watching the c4 corvette headlights but putting petrol in it is going to be to expensive for me.
I just think these cars are to old for me to be able to maintain and keep alive.
