Estate or SUV for 4K

A friend of mine is getting rid of his Corsa now that the PCP is up and he wants a second hand car instead.

He needs something that can carry 2 dogs (a large one and a medium size one!), so an estate or an SUV should do. Other than that, he will only use it for a 15 minute commute each day to work. A good service history and something that is not going to be constantly in the garage would be nice! He only wants to spend a maximum of 4K

Any suggestions are welcome as I’m not overly sure what’s best for his brief and budget.

If he wants to keep his running costs sensible then tell him to stick with an estate, he'll get a very decent estate for that money.
