Hi all,

Fairly convinced on an X3 m40i but before taking plunge wondered if there was a left field petrol choice in the ~3yr old and -40k bracket?

Q5 not interesting to look at or drive, Maserati not a looker like the GT to warrant inclusion. Done touring would prefer an suv (looked at s6 for example)...don’t like Mercedes.

Need one car to replace my 3 touring with good boot space for dogs, towing ability and daddy fun at the weekends for a run out.. 2 cars no longer needed due to WFH.

Thanks.

Another shout for the Alfa QF or the F Pace SVR/Velar SV, you said the Q5 wasn't in the mix but what about the SQ5?

What’s wrong with the 3 series touring pal, seems to fit the bill well no?

Tiguan R would seem like a good choice too as would the cupra ateca

The Alfa qf is lovely but a rival to the x3m not the 40i.

Taking the last post. Alfa is lovely but I am not sure if you can tow with it and not that many at low to mid 40k.

Not sure about the SQ5; I am just not a fan of the exterior even if the interior is fab.

Cupra is out for interior, just not in the same league as the Germans.

Tiguan R I have toyed with but an only get new (if at all) right now and I have a feeling the depreciation will be horrific!

I think I convinced myself, 2019 M40i is the way to go. Ps coming from a F31 320d xdrive tourer and so spending a wad of cash for what is essentially the “same” car albeit with a better engine just seems a waste.

Thanks all!

I think the Tiguan interior is pretty pish too. We had one for a few days recently (an R-Line) and I was very unimpressed. In addition, when you selected reverse, the dash emits a bleep to warn you to look around - the exact same bleep as my mates VW Caddy van. A small thing I know, but all round it was a pretty poor car despite being loaded to the gunnels with spec.

Yep, we’ve got a 2019 X3 20i. As nice as it is, once our house build is finished it’s getting swapped for a G21 M340i Touring. Lightly used ones are in your budget.

Yeah I'd seriously look at these. I thought I wanted an X3 until I had a look around one and wasn't that impressed with the interior. It might just be in my head, but I thought the G20 had a much nicer finish, so landed in one of those. If I had the budget I would have gone M340i touring!

I wouldn't go for any of the above. I would give a used a C63 Estate or a BMW 340 estate a go.

Collecting an X3 M40i tomorrow in 2020 guise with the msport seats which I think really make the interior. I too looked again at the 340i however I am coming out of a F31 tourer and so the extra cash needed to change the car as opposed to an “updated version” of the existing one was a winner for me.

Not X3 but we’ve had X4 M40i since sept 2020 as my wife’s car and it’s great.

It ends up getting used as the main family bus and my E92 M3 sits in the garage most of the time.

The M40i engine is a peach and as everyday transport I love it. Even sounds good with nice pops on startup despite OPF.

With WFH I actually take the X4 M40i to work meetings more often than I can be bothered getting the M3 out of the garage. It really is 95% of the fun 95% of the time.

Managed to get a NIP on the way but it is awesome - not the most economical but a boat load of fun smile
