Cheap 2 year lease for £150 - what is it?
Discussion
Planning on chopping in my car this week as it's thirsty, costs me £300/month on PCP, drinks petrol when I'm using it, tax and insurance are all due next weekend and it will be out of warranty and cost a lot if it goes wrong plus I'm hardly using it now.
Looking at Carwow I can get a 2 year lease on a brand new Corsa for about £130/month with a grand down.
It's not exciting it's white goods motoring but it's cheap in every sense and it's under warranty and sips fuel so I don't have to really care about anything other than driving it and I'll save around £300/month.
I'm spending tomorrow trawling lease websites but I think the question got a bit lost on the main lease thread as this is Pistonheads so people are more interested in something more exotic deals.
Any thoughts on cars or deals appreciated

I can see the attraction. I did something not dissimilar a few years back, picking up a Skoda Yeti for £159 pcm with no deposit. Like the Corsa, not exciting but perfect for what we needed it for.
I didn’t know you could still pick stuff up for c£150pcm, so good to know options still out there.

Yes I'm struggling to see anything quite that crazy in terms of value but a Corsa seems available for as little as £120/month on a 9+24.I didn’t know you could still pick stuff up for c£150pcm, so good to know options still out there.
I did contemplate looking for a cheap used car but at those kinds of prices it really doesn't seem to make much sense.
I put this:

on the lease thread. Only 5k miles I know, but would have it over the Corsa tbh.
Good luck with the search.

Mind if I ask any specific reason over a Corsa?
Like I said it's a bit "white goods" and other than glancing at PDF brochures I've literally done no homework yet

I was looking at a Mazda 2, SEL-Nav model which is pretty well specced for a base model car.
It includes, nav (obviously), cruise, LED headlights and so on and so forth. Amortised over 3 years is £190 per month. 9+35 at £145 or so.
Only 75bhp, but should crack 50mpg and in all other regards would be cheap as chips. Considering coming out of 'shedding' for this.

I did something very similar. Went from a E39 BMW 2.8 to a 1.2 Corsa. I hated it pretty much from day one. Yes it was cheap to run, but everything about it was crap.
I ended up giving it to my mum in place of paying her rent whilst I was paying it off. She loved it and when I wrote it off she got another one (but five door and in blue so she can find it easily in a car park!).

I almost did this about 18 months ago, a Kia xceed for peanuts - sick of heavily depreciating assets. Fortunately, I came to my senses and picked up a 56 plate e92 330i with every option ticked for £3500. Its cost me basically nothing in that time and would probably sell for about £4500.
Food for thought, a cheap boring lease isn’t the only option for cheap motoring. It might actually cost to more whilst being soul destroyingly dull.

Wife drives an 18 plate corsa which I take to the car wash every once in a while.
Whilst it's certainly nothing special it's a great little car for around town, easy to drive, low powered.
The new model looks ok in my opinion and the wife is planning to lease it when her PCP deal runs out.
If it's white goods motoring you want I dont think you'll go wrong unless you gamble and go bangernomics

Bottom line is you need to drive one otherwise you might be slitting your wrists after a year with another 12 months of misery to go.
Also factor in how much rough and tumble your car is likely to have over 2 years. 4 curbed alloys and multiple car park dings/scratches to pay for may push the ownership cost up substantially.
£130 ppm with a grand down is £3120, could creep to £3750 in hand-back charges.
Another option is to get a nicer car a few years into a warranty and factor in depreciation. A 4 year old Kia would still have 3 years warranty left

That's the thing with bangernomics I had to help my mum sort a new battery this week as she doesn't use her car very much and it reminded me what a total fWhilst it's certainly nothing special it's a great little car for around town, easy to drive, low powered.

k about all that stuff is.I know we all have our preferences but there's a lot to be said for just know what you're paying, pay it, use it, hand it back.
The Abarth type deals aren't so much about budget they're usually 4 years or the lease really starts to go up and I'm not sure I want to take on any more than 2 years.
Dumb question but presume with a lease you cannot hand it back early or have the flexibility you do on a PCP/contract hire?

The driver should be able to add that functionality by possessing a brain.
Debatable
Just had a quote from webuyanycar for mine that's far above what BMW hinted at and I need it gone within a week to avoid headaches with renewing tax and insurance so that's looking like tomorrows task right now.
If their figures are accurate (I've used them once before and the car was exactly as described so they gave me what they quoted) it's about £3K coming back to me so it almost pays for a 2 year cheap lease.
Having one sitting on the drive too much of the time really makes you think about "expensive" cars.

I agree. I'm a fan of bangernomics, but if needing to rely on the car daily it's often worth a bit extra for peace of mind alongside not having to play the 'guess how much that new noise is going to cost me?' game every now and then.

Depends on the specific contract, but you can usually hand back early for a penalty. I handed my last lease back 6 months early, and had to pay 50% of the remaining payments at handover.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
