Not sure if anyone noticed that there was an Aston Martin Cygnet on sale for £29,950 on Pistonheads for last few months.

Then the advert disappeared and suddenly the same car appears 2 weeks later but with a new price £37,950.

This must be the fastest inflation of a car in history. That equates to 25% increase in 2 weeks.

Is the dealer a Pay-day-loan company? Or can we say that the dealer is being “optimistic?

I see a lot of classic beetles with the same scenario. Bought from private seller and 2/4 or 5k slapped on the price. Classic car dealers are parasites imo

You'll regularly see Volvo 740's at £2-3k get whacked up at 7 or 8 with the scummy seller even pinching the private sellers photos. This is not new, or news. Just look at the Venturi feted by PH at £40k here.

Sold ten minutes previously advertised at 32.

Don't like it, don't buy it.

Indeed. I’m doing fine without an AM Cygnet.

I noticed the same thing. Seems counterintuitive but maybe there's that much demand. I know there's heaps of cash queuing to be spent but this is nuts.

It’s not price gouging to put an inflated price on an item noones going to buy

In this case it went from one deale, Mayfair Prestige to Aston Martin Cheltenham. Added a few miles I guess this tells you the mark up they expect.

Not really seeing the issue TBH.

Private seller gets what they want, dealer happy to wait and offer additional services/comeback so all fair enough.

Same with dealer to dealer, if one wants to shift stock and the buying dealer happy to wait for the right buyer then not a problem.

Not price gouging by any stretch IMHO.

I had forgotten the Cygnet existed, then coincidentally saw my first one in years today in Bordon, followed by this thread!

These price hikes have put me off buying, so in the meantime, happy to just watch the market with interest. That's a few new models coming out with significant price increases which aren't putting downward pressure on previous models. A45 being one, Golf GTi and R etc. The new M3 is just eye wateringly expensive and the next C63 with its hybrid 4 pot, isn't really a credible alternative to the previous gen V8.

Audi RS3's have gone up a fair bit, which is hard to understand as the interior is rubbish. The new S3 seems more reasonably priced for a much improved product, let's see what happens when the new RS3 is released.

Some of the classic values are ridiculous, old crap cars haven't got any better with age and owning/maintaining an over valued piece of junk with limited spares availability is just amusing.

I've been told Rockingham is full to the brim of ex lease cars or something, but no one wants to release to market incase it crashes the values. So someone somewhere is carrying that cost. How long will they be prepared to sit on them though if its true.

Interesting times..
