Hi all. In a couple of weeks I will be selling my mk1 mx5 and ford focus daily for something which would give me the best of both worlds and more. I’ve been looking at the usual options (focus/fiesta st, 330i, megane renaultsport) but also considered more unusual cars like the Toyota crown athlete v and infinity g37. Reliability is a huge factor as I cover 17k miles a year, however fuel is not an issue as I would happily trade fuel economy for something interesting! Does anyone have any ownership experience with any of these or can recommend anything I have missed? TIA

Big or small?

Take the stupid badges off, haggle a bit and this could be a bloody good car IMO:

In all honesty, the 335i is a perfect car. I’d just be worried about it developing wastegate rattle as have seen its quite a common problem. I’d love for it to be proven wrong however.

E500 Coupe cracking car, understated (debadge it & everyone will think you're driving an E350cdi) quick rare & a decent steer when you want to get a bit lively:

E350 same as the above but a bit slower/less special & only marginally better on fuel:

Audi S5 good cars but not sure I'd buy one over an E Coupe

335i M Sport

Now if you want something that's still a decent steer & that'll have sensible running costs with a sweet V6 then the G37 is a very good option & if it wasn't for that E500 above or CL500 below this is the one I'd buy & the bonus of coming in under budget:

Now a great leftfield option is the gen2 CL500 they've depreciated to a nice point where you can get a nice low mileage one that'll soak up 17k a year with ease:

In that vein there's also the 630i:
