Help - What Car? Large Petrol SUV

Hi all,

Am looking for some advice to make sure I've not missed anything obvious. Currently leasing a T5 Volvo V90 Cross-Country that has been amazingly cheap motoring for the last 2 years but it goes back in about 4 weeks.

Decided to buy the next car rather than lease and have the cash to do so - max budget is £25k but closer to £20k would be better.

Requirements are:

• Large SUV - love the space that the Volvo has and want something either the same size or larger in terms of passenger and boot space
• 4x4 - has come in handy a few times in the Volvo
• Petrol - don't do the mileage for diesel and 99% of journeys are really short ones, popping to the shops, taking the dog to the forest for a walk etc
• Automatic - much more relaxed driving experience
• Fairly new - say no more than 3 years old.
• Extras - have been spoilt with the V90 having leather, heated seats, reversing camera, electric tailgate, app to start the car on cold mornings (best invention ever!) etc and would ideally want most of this in the new car, accepting that I may not get it all. Heated non cloth seats (so leather or alcantara) and front / rear sensors would be minimum though

Currently am looking at either Seat Tarraco or Skoda Kodiak, both of which seem the only cars that fit the bill. I know VW do the Tiguan Allspace as well but can't seem to find many of them around. I like the look of the Seat more over the Skoda but there are definitely more Skoda's about. I can't seem to find many Seat's that are 4x4 either.

Have I missed anything else? Is budget realistic for what I want?

Any help / pointers would be really appreciated.

Kia Sportage - if it's big enough.

Sportage is available in petrol auto 4x4 form. In top of the range "GT-Line S" trim it has pretty much every imaginable toy. Should be able to find a low mileage 2 or 3 year old one within budget, with the bonus of the remainder of the 7 year warranty. A new one is around £34k.

If you don't mind losing a few luxuries, the "GT-Line" version is £30k new.

There's a new model coming in a few months, so you might even find an ex-demo within budget

I've just replaced a Superb estate with a 2017 GT-Line S 2 litre diesel. Not much to choose between between Skoda and Kia for build quality and finish. Although it's a bit down on power from my Superb 280, the 185bhp Sportage goes well enough. It even has a few "extras" that the top of the range L&K Superb didn't come with - heated steering wheel and wireless phone charger.

Thanks, will take a look but not sure the Sportage will be big enough - boot space seems to be down on the Volvo and way down on the Skoda / Seat. Food for thought though...

We loved out 5008, they don't have 4 x 4 but do have "grip Control" on some models.

Loads of room, I have another on order now, being built the next week or so.

Quite often car decisions are made based on the amount of crap folk take on holiday, which usually matches exactly the car's capacity for such crap. You may well be different but if you buy a smaller motor you tend to take less crap. Or use a roof box. Or consider an estate which often has better usable boot space than an SUV anyway

Touareg is out of budget unfortunately
DS7 / 5008 are not 4wd (will take a look at the grip control though to see what that actually does)
I do like the Stelvio and had a rental in Italy for a week a couple of years ago that was great but it’s not big enough.
Not keen on the Lexus for some reason and again not sure if they are big enough.

Looks like the Tarraco is winning at the moment. I think it’s a great looking car, just need to find the right spec. The one listed above is near perfect, I’m just not convinced on the brown alcantara..

There's such a small amount of it I don't think it'll really be an issue especially when you'll be sat on it.

You like the V90. Why don't you buy one, they're in budget.
