Hi All

I've managed to make that unfortunate part of being middle aged where I'm contemplating buying a 7 seater car. Having never thought this would happen I know little about what is available and would appreciate any views!

I'll likely do 12-15k miles a year, 2 days a week commuting around 90 miles a day (travelling solo) and then just pottering around. I don't want a massive car and the 2 rear seats will only be for occasional child use, but the boot must be able to take a small buggy when the seats are in use. Most of the time it'll just be me in the car and I don't fancy driving something that just flops around corners, but appreciate that no 7 seater will ever be 'fun' - I have my Westfield for that.

Whilst I do not wish to pay any extra for a badge, I am leaning towards the BMW Gran Tourer like the one below, but what trim / engine...

Would appreciate any thoughts on the BMW or alternatives around the £13k mark.

Depends on the size of the buggy, but I’d be very careful checking any 7 seater for its ability to take a buggy when the boot seats are up. Size behind those seats on virtually all 7 seaters is pretty limited.

And I hate to follow the stereo type, but if you want a 7 seater with a good driving feel, the S Max is where it’s at. Decent chassis and handles better than any of its rivals.

My last two cars have been 7 seaters, a E class merc with the fold down seats in the boot and an R class merc.

Both picked up for peanuts, both great drives. Neither gave any problem. The R class feels big, but it’s a comfy ride.
