So, Im thinking about buying an i30n Perforance
Discussion
Its come to the point where ive been able to save up enough money so im able to buy an i30n performance (pcp life). ive got a healthy deposit to put down to where i can have the car for around £250 a month and was looking at a 2018 one with just under 30k on the clock and full history. This is going to be one of my first real hot hatch and want to know if theres anything i should know before buying one and also whether there are any hissen gems i havent seen. i know that at 40k miles they need a bigger service than usual from what ive seen online, and on the whole cant find a lot wrong with them
ive also looked at a renault megane R.S 280 as they seem to have a stronger final value therefore are aobut the same to buy and would love to know youre opinions on the i30n performance and anything else that i may have missed.
looking around 20k for the car and ideally want something still in warrenty.
I do around 15-18k miles a year so nothing to thirsty and practicallity isnt really a problem but 4 seats would be nice

Bought my i30N performance brand new at the end of 2018 for £20,300 from Berkeley Vale Hyundai, they did a cracking deal and I think a few others on PH bought from them - This included a Hyundai loyalty discount of £2.5k in which you just needed to have any hyundai with a V5 registered at your address, I know one of the chaps on here bought a cheap Getz or something for £250, got the discount then sold it for the same price. I believe the loyalty programme is back for March also. The PCP deal was £1500 down ant £296/month for 12k miles/year
I sold the i30N about 3 weeks ago for £20,600 with 6k miles on it, it's currently up for sale with DNA Autohaus for £23k. I think their PCP quote came back on it at like 350/month on 6.9% APR... so £60/month more than brand new and with a bigger deposit.
I loved the car, just felt like it was time for something slightly bigger (X3 M40i currently being eyed up).
It may be worth calling a few dealers and seeing what deals they'd offer new, especially as the facelifted i30N with DCT is meant to be out for purchase this year.

I really like these and have done since they came out. My wife has had a couple of much lesser Hyundai's including our current family car and they have been faultless. However, whilst they were absolute bargains to buy I can't help feeling the I30N is a bit steep. As suggested you may be better looking at a newer one because the early cars are not great value.
For the same money you get a 2018 Golf GTi performance. For around £4k less there's the 308Gti at the same age and mileage. I know it all depends on what you want but I think prices will drop sharply once they are 5yrs old and out of warranty. I'd be interested in a few years when prices come down.

Have you got your numbers right? You bought it for £20,300 in 2018 and sold it roughly 2.5 years later for £20,600!I sold the i30N about 3 weeks ago for £20,600 with 6k miles on it, it's currently up for sale with DNA Autohaus for £23k. I was going to tell the OP not to be daft enough to PCP a used car as the interest rate is always terrible but if the appreciate like that then I'll have 2.

Yup, I got 8k off new and sold it via Motorway for £299 more than my original invoice value. I hadn't realised just how good of a deal I got when first purchasing until it came to selling it.I was going to tell the OP not to be daft enough to PCP a used car as the interest rate is always terrible but if the appreciate like that then I'll have 2.
thankyou for all the insight!
this has helped me massivley in deciding whether its the car to go for and i believe so! im just interested in how you managed to get the price of your new cars so cheap, ive heard of a few people who have managed to get new ones for around £20-22k and was interested in how you made this possible?

The i30N Performance is a great car & at 20k you'll get one with a fair amount of Warranty left, with some haggling you should get a low mileage 2019 car:

Also take a look at the 308 GTI they're a good steer & you can extend the Manufacturers Warranty:

OP it's worth noting the two that ZX has linked are both fastbacks rather than hatches, they have slightly different coloured trim inside and the suspension is significantly softer when in comfort mode. The fastback would have been my choice but the PCP over 3 years was an extra £7k due purely to the GFV being listed as £7.8k at 3 years old, rather than 14.5k for the hatchback.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202102199...

I appreciate the GFV is all relative if you're planning on keeping the car, but as I was wanting definitive costs I stuck with the hatchback.

£1500 off standard promotion
£2500 Hyundai loyalty discount
£2500 deposit contribution
£1000 part ex 'deposit' My part-ex was worth 8k, they gave me a 9k valuation against the i30N and paid 8k cashback for it and 'kept' 1k as customer deposit.
All in all came to £20,300 - Worth noting I also got it in engine red, which was one of the two free colours.
I dealt with Tom Wintle at Berkeley Vale, he seems to do all of their i30N sales. If you want to contact him he may or may not have a deal worth considering for you - tom@berkeleyvalemotors.co.uk

I'd be very interested to know what the GMFV was from the dealer? Had to be a lot less than you actually got for the car surely?£1500 off standard promotion

I wonder if the initial deals were due to them being an unknown quantity. It must have been hard to tempt hit hatch buyers into a Hyundai when they brought out the i30N. But now it's established as a really good car so values are perhaps higher than first expected.
As with all PCP deals I guess it's more about the monthly payment than the price of the car. I think I would certainly be looking to compare the cost of new Vs used. Or set your monthly budget and get as new a car as possible.
And if the fastback version really is worth £7.8k after 3 years I'm definitely buying a 3 year old one when the time comes!

GFV was around £14.5k after 3 years and 36k miles, the fastback was shocking at less than £8k GFV over the same 36months and 36k miles - Apparently just due to lack of confidence from Hyundai. I think the i30N is one of the few cars in its class where the GFV is realistic and you're likely to have some equity in it at the end, something I thought was a myth amongst PCP deals.I wonder if the initial deals were due to them being an unknown quantity. thankyou for the insight! amazing to see how you got a top spec car for bottom spec price! ive been on the phone to hyundai peterborough and theyve told me there are only 3 new 2017-2020 shape i30n performance's for sale in the uk, i dont know if this is a sales tactic but sure seems i wont be getting that deal. I think that from all the input from everyone the i30n is going to be the one, unless the i20n comes out soon enough and blows my socks off!£1500 off standard promotion

The i20N should be a hoot, we're waiting for pricing shortly and considering having one as our second car. Longer warranty and being significantly less common than a Fiesta ST should make it all the more appealing to me, I'm just hoping that they've followed the formula of offering it in a single specification i.e. Everything that's normally optional on other cars is standard on the N range.I doubt you're running in to sales tactics, the facelifted (and DCT optional) i30N was due to go on sale this month and so I imagine old stock has simply run low. Good luck finding something that meets your budget, it is a fantastic car and I honestly enjoyed driving it more than my M4.
