Suggestions For A New Car - Page 1 - Car Buying

Hi all,
Looking for a new car to buy in the next couple of months but really struggling to balance practicality and still be enthusiastic about it for my price range. Looking for something reliable between £1500 and £2000. Needs to be an estate, as I am a uni student and need to move stuff around so preferably an estate, needs to reliable, preferably a diesel because of the mpg, but also something which looks nice and has some market for customisation as I want to work on the car a bit and put my own touch on it. Would like it to be a bit punchy too, nothing ridiculous but something that will be around 180-200 bhp with a remap. TIA

My vote would be a Honda Accord. But other contenders would be BMW 3 series or Ford Mondeo.

Mercedes diesel auto estate, job done.
My current one is on 255k mikes.
C class if you need some practicality.
E class if you regularly move wardrobes.

I'd go for a Focus estate. Decent to drive, fairly stout, bits for replacement or improvement are plentiful and cheap.

A Honda Accord is a good about one the definitely slipped my mind. A BMW on the other hand would most likely kill me on insurance as I am only 20 but I will check it out and have a look. Unfortunately when you get insurance you are just put into a category no matter how you drive frown

Similar to the BMW really not sure on a Mercedes insurance wise. But I haven't thought to look at Mercedes' as I just assumed they would be out of my price range but a Mercedes is definitely a good call thank you

Currently have a MK3 Mondeo and to be completely honest I am not a huge fan. Mine has a dodgy dmf but in comparison to other cars I have owned from that era I feel like the interiors are often quite dated and not nice to be in for long periods of time. However, I will have a look as I think my interior is definitely very pensioner ish. Got a cream interior with fake plastic wood everywhere including the steering wheel 😂

If you're 20, you'll struggle to find something with 180-200 bhp that doesn't cost more to insure than your entire budget for the car itself.

My Mondeo at the minute had 130 as did my MK4 golf, but I just want a car that you can put a remap on and get a bit of extra not a car thats baseline is 140. I also got a quote for a TT 225 BAM that was around £1300 which I am happy to pay but realised a TT is not economical or practical so kid of gave up on that one for now
