Useful Tip - Check Outstanding Recalls

Apologies if this has been posted before but thought I'd share.
A few years ago I was buying a Golf GTi for the father in law. A decently priced one came up not too far away and the seller reduced the price further as he stated that coil pack was faulty.
Did some digging on forums and discovered it had been a common problem that VW had rectified with a recall. I called VW with the reg and VIN from the Golf (that I'd got from the seller) and they confirmed that there was still an outstanding recall on the car despite it being 11yrs old.
In good faith I did ask the seller if he'd checked for a recall on the problem but he couldn't be bothered with any more hassles and just wanted shot of it.
Bought it for a hefty discount, booked it in straight to VW and it was all sorted with a new coil pack fitted. Gratis.
So worth bearing in mind if you see a car up for sale with a specific problem.
