Can I get my deposit back?

A BMW salesman once said to me if you like it then put a deposit down to show you are serious.

Well that’s what I did.
However I changed my mind.

1. I have not signed any PCP paperwork
2. I have not seen the car. The salesman cancelled the virtual viewing and we never got it rebooked.
3. We did not negotiate the deal as in any extras
4. It’s distance selling. The car is in Cambridge. I am in Devon.

He said he would ask his manager for my deposit back.

How likely is it that I will get it back?

Pretty likely i would say, have done similar myself on a brand new Bmw order, placed a £500 deposit down and changed my mind. The sales guy was fine and didn't drag his feet in giving me a refund.

I'm currently waiting on a £100 deposit return from a car supermarket type place, it supposedly was processed Tuesday a couple of weeks ago (9th).

Chased it up Monday (15th) only to be told it definitely had been done and I'd just have to wait..apparently "the current situation" was causing delays whatever that means. Seems to me like it's all an electronic process so not sure what COVID has to do with anything.

Still waiting... Figured I'd give it 10 business days which takes us to about Tue/Wed 23rd/24th before chasing them again.

Thankfully its on credit card rather than £100 from my own pocket but its a bit annoying having to wait seemingly so long.. typically a refund is handled in a day or 2.
