Thoughts on buying an Octavia Mk4
Discussion
Hi folks, I am currently about to buy a Skoda Octavia SEL First Edition hatchback.it has a load of extras fitted and is priced at £21500. It is a 2ltr diesel with dsg and has 5000 miles on it.
Before I fully commit, just curious what people's thoughts are. I already have a Skoda Superb 66 plate l and k diesel with dsg. I really like it and have had zero issues.
This Octavia would be our second car. I am really keen to have all the new tech etc it has on board (I'm a bit of a geek!).
What are people's thoughts? I've looked at some other cars but they all seem to fall short in terms of the equipment etc offered for the price, compared to the Skoda.
Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Basically, I buy cars and intend tk run them to about 140k -160k miles. I travel 500 miles a week. That's why PCP etc is no use to me. I won't be changing it in three years etc. It will be my car until it becomes uneconomical to repair.
My wife is taking the Superb now (she is doing similar mileage and likes the car). So likely I will be driving the Octavia. Looking at around 1500 miles a month in it for me at the moment.
Petrol just wouldn't be economical at all for me. I had hoped for an electric car but the price is just too prohibitive right now. Maybe when the superb needs changed...

ahh I see, when you said second car I thought perhaps you might not be using it much and a Petrol would offer better value.Basically, I buy cars and intend tk run them to about 140k -160k miles. You get a lot for your money with a modern Skoda. I can't really help much more as I have never owned one but they get good reviews and looking at the one you mention, I would assume it has dealer warranty still anyway?
Take it for a test drive and see what you think.
The Octavia is a car I was looking at although in estate form and drove a couple a few months ago. Really nice to drive, quick enough, comfortable and decent quality as you would expect.
Just not sure of virtually all the controls been on the touch screen and I think that's one of the main things that put me off. I ended up going for kuga on lease as loaded with kit but if I was buying and intending to keep as long as you hope to, the Skoda would have won.
Believe the first edition SEL does come with decent spec. Enjoy.

When I had the choice I opted for the Mondeo for me it was the better steer quieter just as well built as the Superb I was looking at & I preferred the shape.

What does the Skoda have that the Mondeo doesn't ? spec wise the Mondeo's are very good, if you opt for the Vignale you will get better leather and leather dash, heated steering wheel, climate seats etc.
However i'd spend 20k on the XF, or even a 5 series, so much more car for your money over the Octavia.

If you needed something newer then go for a Focus

No issues with the Skoda I’m sure it will be great. Your money may get you into a nicer package essentially however with a nicer badge.
At the money for a diesel I’d always struggle to see past a BMW 330d.

If you didn’t need an estate how about the VW Arteon.
