Buying car with no V5 from Auction
Discussion
Hello guys,
I am interested on buying a car from Copart. The car is a Cat S and no V5 comes with it.
My intention is to send it to my country (Spain) to register here. Since Copart seems reliable (at least in legal terms),not having a V5 is not an inconvenient.
The question is the next: May I (as a non british citizen and no resident) ask for a V5? I saw its possible throught internet but I dont know whether only for citizens or not, neither the process. The car is a 2008 BMW 135i, and I assume it has european code (something like this - e9*92/53*0132*02). Is there any way to verify it?
Thank you in advance,
Manuel

Will DVLA issue a V5 for a cat S vehicle?
If it has been written off due to structural damage (I think that is what a cat S means) then it should not be put back on the road until it has been repaired so no V5 until the repairs have been inspected.
I may be talking a load of b
ks.
Repairs don't get inspected. Never have done. If it has been written off due to structural damage (I think that is what a cat S means) then it should not be put back on the road until it has been repaired so no V5 until the repairs have been inspected.

ks.The V5C automatically gets destroyed when a car is registered Cat S, but all you have to do (as a UK resident, so not relevant to the OP in this instance) is fill out a V62 form and you will receive a new V5C free of charge.
That has been the situation since 2015.
Prior to 2015, the same thing applied to Cat C cars (old money equivalent to Cat S), but the new V5C being issued was subject to a VIC check, which was just verifying that the VIN matched what it should be. Any repair work has NEVER been inspected as part of the process. If it passes an MOT, that is its "check" as such.
'DVLA cannot send a vehicle log book to an address outside the UK.'

Thank you guys for the answer.
Its clear to me though, I can get a V5C of a "cat S" car. I will ask DVLA to send documentation to my friend who is from UK.
One last question and I stop bothering you, guys.
Documents of a "Cat S" car are the same than in a roadworthy car? or is like in USA that you only get the "savage document" ?
I hope Copart provide me the full regular documentation of the car.
Thank you so much.

I have a Cat S car and it says nothing on the V5, but I've seen others which do.
Where they do, they actual wording is:
"Substantially repaired and/or accident damaged" and on older Cat C's that is followed by "Identity checked on (date)"
But as said previously, Identity checks were abolished in 2015.
