Hi All,

I am trying to decide between either a petrol octavia VRS or a Superb 2.0 TSI 4x4 Laurin and Klement.

On paper the superb is is faster 0-60 - 5.6 vs vs 6.5 but reviews suggest the octavia is more fun to drive.

I do like the additional size of the superb but having driven neither I’m after some owners experiences and advice.

I’m also open to other fast estate ideas - budget of around £20k - my view was that I’d get more bang for the buck with Skoda (I.e newer and less miles) than a more premium brand?

Again open to ideas

The AWD will help the 0-60 times also unless you do lots of drag times, how a car goes from 30mph I'd say mattered more.

I'd agree with the Leon Cupra ST. Pretty similar underpinnings to the Octavia but just looks a bit better, is quite a lot faster and is better specced - including the excellent adaptive suspension as standard.

The Seat is a good shout. If you are set on the Octavia, however, I have had three and they are very good cars.

The Mk 3 petrol DSG estate I had until recently was a brilliant family wagon that was fun to drive and felt quicker than its 220bhp.

Your budget should stretch to the 230 or 245
models.

The Superb is huge inside and the 4WD really appeals. This would me my pick. Really comfy too.

Of your two options id definately go for the Superb. Probably a little less agile but the Octavia is not the last word in fun drives anyway.

For me the Superb offers a lot more car for the money and is a better overall proposition.

Depends how much space you need. My Mk2 Octavia comfortable sits 4 adults even with a 6'2" driver and has a big boot. The Supurb gets you even more space in the back but you do you really need it at the cost of that extra bulk? The Leon Cupra is pretty similar size inside to the Octavia but with less rear headroom in the hatchback, presumably not an issue in the estate though.

I know its not cool to reccomend your own car but mine is excellent.

Comfy, goes well with just 300bhp and mine has averaged 42mpg over the last 12k. Its a lovely place to sit.

How much space do you need?

I have the Leon Cupra estate and it's a great car but it's not massive if you have kids in child seats. I couldn't get 2 in the back for instance as my seat is too far back (I'm only 6' so nothing unusual).

Superbs are massive in comparison, I'm pretty sure you can get the front seats all the way back with most child seats.

Octavia somewhere in between for practicality, but IMO 250+ bhp needs 4WD (or RWD) as you can rarely use all the power in FWD, whereas with 4WD you can use it all the time!

Thanks for the heads up - great advice!! I will have 2 rear facing child seats and I’m 6”4 so need a lot of space to push chair back! Agree totally RE the 4 wheel drive - given the weather and road condition 4 wheel drive gives me confidence to “have fun” all year round not just when the sun is out (obviously fun is had minus kids in car 😂)

I owned the vrs for 2 years and the superb 280 4x4 sportline for 2 years. Hands down the superb is the much better daily car, and so much grip out of corners. Any moisture on the road the vrs used to scrabble for grip and wheel spin during acceleration (e.g. short slipways and accelerating out of corners/roundabouts). Also the superb has a massive boot (great for me as we used to drive to the alps each winter full of kit. We called it our intercontinental rocket.

Agreed, the superb rear seat legroom is huge, so pushing the drivers seat back has negligible impact.

I don’t like the brown interior either but when you actually see it in the flesh it’s not as bad as it looks in that pic.
