Hello,
I am looking at possibly buying one of these cars (second hand) for myself for work purposes. I have never owned one before but have always liked the quality of the cabin, and lets not forget the power and quattro for added peace of mind.
Can present or former owners of this car please provide me with their feedback on owning/driving/maintenance costs?

The wife had one for 4 years, it was quick once you were in the power band but the economy was bad, she used to get just over 200 miles to a tank (town driving), if I nursed it it would still be difficult to crack 30 mpg.I am looking at possibly buying one of these cars (second hand) for myself for work purposes. Nice car though, didn’t have any problems with it during the 4 years.

Crikey 200miles to a tank - that is quite alarming. I need at least 300 otherwise I will be forever at the pumps! They are nice cars I agree but I find myself wondering whether a 3-5 year old gti might be a better option. I don't need something which is rapid, rather something which has some poke as and when I need it and is relatively cheap to run and maintain. I do like the the Bose speakers in the Audi, they sound fantastic. Nice car though, didn’t have any problems with it during the 4 years.
Her journeys were dropping the kids off at school the a couple of miles to work so short trips, hence the s
t economy. She drove it like she stole it as well.
Nevertheless I tried short shifting and driving like my dad to get more mpg and it was never that much better. It was a manual too so on the motorway the revs were 3000+, I think the DSGs were better.

Hi, it is a shame the economy of these cars is as poor as you say. I am currently driving my x5 like a grandpa (twin turbo 3.0 litre d) and getting approx 200 miles to half a tank or around 27 mpg which is mainly secondary roads and some motorway/london driving. Despite loving these cars I think a 1 series bmw second gen might be a better option. Less powerful I know with a diesel engine but cheaper to run and insure/road tax etc and you can get over 400 miles to a tank .t economy. Christ. Our Cooper S F54 does 350 to a tank and I don’t exactly granny drive it.Can get 550 to a tank if you stick to 70mph on the motorway on a run.
48 litre tank so size of a thimble too

Perhaps my issue then is that since I got it in October I haven’t yet been on a motorway and my longest drive is 25 miles!Can get 550 to a tank if you stick to 70mph on the motorway on a run.
