Selling a car with private plate

I am looking to sell a car privately and I still have my private plate on it. The dealer looking at buying it has said I can take the plate off online, he takes the car straight away with new keeper supplement and the new V5 would come through to me which I then send on to him. Is there any risk that I can lose my plate?

As long as you get the confirmation through online before you hand over the car and new keeper slip then you will be safe.
Not all retentions go through online (due to gaps in tax etc) so you may have to do it by post which takes a lot longer.

Sounds ok to me as it is online now and generates a new reg for the car immediately. The v5 then arrives a few days later.
