Importing a EU vehicle into the UK Brexit

Good afternoon PHers,

I am looking at buying a vehicle that is French registered in 1988 and import it into the UK, on a personal basis.

Am I right if I think that, past 1st of Jan 2021, I will have to pay import duty (should be zero) & VAT (20%) on it?

For some reasons, I would like to keep the vehicle in France until March, then crossing the border.

If I were to buy the vehicle now, can I officially import it straight away whilst making the physical voyage in early 2021?
