Someone assassinated my 2006 1.8 Civic at a roundabout last week and I'm looking for something to replace her for about 3-4.5k, preferably lower end as I will immediately get a full service and probably get a mechanic check before buying.

I'm no boy racer but would still like sub 9 seconds 0-60 and newer the better. I'm not mechanically minded so lowish maintenance would help but I will look after it.

I seem to like the German and Japanese cars and favour A3,A4S/ 1 and 3 series/ Accords and Civics. Also seen some nicer Skoda and Saabs but I would love some good advice on anything in my budget range. I've seen decent looking 2008 318d and 318is.

I typically do about 11k a year with mostly 5 mile drives each way to and from work with the semi frequent weekly 160 mile round trips to the Lake District.

I'd like to keep to sub 100k miles if possible.
