Used car conundrum

Hi,
I've been lucky enough to have company cars for the last 12 years or so. However due to this pesky virus I've had to return car as working from home until at least next march.
I'm looking for a used car to use for family also around £1200 that won't let me down.
Currently deciding between 2006 Audi A4 estate 2.0 diesel. 154k full service history 3 months MOT mazda 6 estate 2.2 diesel 176k full service history and full MOT.

Mazda spotless inside and drives well, but bit shabby outside (corroded alloys, cracked wing mirror and advisories on MOT 'exhaust and heatshield deteriorated') looked underneath and heatshield held on with cable ties??🤔

Audi slightly better condition and no advisories

Head spinning frantically googling 'mazda or audi which is best' and currently at a loss

Would welcome any advice, thank you

At that age and mileage nothing has the potential to not let you down unfortunately.

I would buy on condition and if it’s a toss up get the Audi, the Mazda cable tie information tells you something.

Those cars you're looking at are going to need at least a suspension refresh look, for cars with lower miles & buy on condition as well as receipts.

If you are working from home you won't be doing much mileage, so do you really need a diesel?
There's less to wrong with a petrol and you'll get a fresher car for the same budget.
