Good evening. I have been browsing through eBay at various cars and have found a Jaguar XF 4.2 v8. It has 152,000 miles on it, should I be talked out of it or do I really have to scratch this itch. I mean what could possibly go wrong. Is there anything specific to watch out for on these?

Cheers. Steve

Yes. Get a Lexus GS430 instead. Check for cam belt and rust

How much are you looking to spend on this barge.

Regarding the SV8 check whether the valley pipe has been replaced, if not budget for replacing it not cheap as the supercharger needs to be removed.

Morning, sorry for the late reply. Been a busy few days. I have a budget of around £4000 and a 2004 bmw 318ci m sport convertible to p/ex. So around £5000. It is not going to be a daily as I have my van. So mileage doesn’t bother me. I do a round trip to Spain for 3 weeks a year so would like a comfy barge that can just plough down the motorway. I was also looking at a a cl500 but the abc suspension scares the crap out of me. 😬😬

so i have gone and done it, picking up this evening, a 2003 audi s4 avant 4.2 v8, 135,000 miles on it and a slipping clutch, priced up parts for the clutch and a pair of front driveshafts £500. labour is free as i do it myself. also needs a new backbox so perfect excuse to make some noise.
no history of chain being replaced but it sounds quiet and doesnt rattle.

pics will be uploaded in due course.
