Hello all

Cannot decide what to buy as have just sold my car and am in the market for something new. Want something around 30-40k and ideally will hold its value well.

All have their pros and cons but I’m strugling to decide. I like the 911 turbo with manual transmission but it is a little out of my price range for a good one.

The gtr is nice but worries about expensive problems

The r8 is also nice but feel it’s a little too old for my budget and the v8 may not feel so fast compared to my previous m4

Any advice?

Thanks

Whilst it may not be as quick in a straight line but in terms of feel & driver interaction the R8 is right up there test drive one but after saying all of that I'd be buying the GT-R they're very much a drivers car & a really enjoyable drive I'd try to find a facelift model with a Litchfield Stage 1 as this really makes the car better more enjoyable experience.

Leftfield:

i8 (these have taken a hit on depreciation but make an interesting alternative)

I recently went through the same process and ended up with an Alfa 4C!

I tried....
R8 V8 - Too slow / expensive warranty
F-Type R AWD - Incredibly fast, dramatic and great value for money. But a bit too sensible.
981 Cayman S - Probably the best sports car of the bunch, but lacked drama.
991 C2S - This was the front runner for a long time, until I remembered how hard it is to buy a Porsche (lol spec lists, boring colours etc.) Lacked drama as with the Cayman but the extra torque and revs made up for it.
GTR - Bonkers fast, tonnes of presence but running costs scared me off. Also fancied something mid-engined.

I would be interested to hear what swung the Alfa 4C for you. I have always loved the looks.

It has 10x the character as anything else, and I can live with the worse practicality at the moment so thought I’d better take the chance. It’s not the ‘best’ car on the list, but it puts a big smile on your face and has something special about it.

Extra points aswell for cheap warranty, tax & fuel economy. It is however very noisy, hard and impractical.

Having had both a 911 and an R8 V8 I'm astonished you classed the R8 as too slow, then (correctly) considered having a GTR for speed thrills, before finally ending up with an Alfa 4C. Very interesting thought process!
I'm also tempted at some point by a 4C by the way, beautiful cars.
