Back in those halcyon days of my youth buying a car privately was Autotrader and local papers.
I need a stop gap car for 2 or 3 years whilst I wait for a second hand latest shape Tiguan to depreciate further.
Is there a secret niche of private cars for sale or is just not the done thing anymore?
We're talking no newer than 2014, auto SUV or estate near Aylesbury.

Main places I look are Auto Trader or even Ebay.

You can find the odd gem on Gumtree, or even Facebook groups, but you have to sift through a LOT of rubbish.

Autotrader is almost exclusively dealers only now, which is a bit st.

Specific car forums are good too, plus you can see the sellers posting history of problems

Car forums are a good place - however be aware of a very low post count, which may mean they have only signed up to sell.

Totally agree regarding marque or more generic car forums - if I was after a specific model and didn't mind travelling that would be the first place I'd look.

Anecdotally I used to follow Kawasaki ZX ninja forum and folk would advertise their bikes on there but of course demand was pretty low as most forum members already had one so they drop the price to probably less than if it wasn't on a specialised site.

I'm struggling frown there's a nice enough 2012 XC60 locally but the guy wants almost the dealer price and is in no rush.
