I'm looking for a cheap car. Generally only about £3,000.

I only use the car to go from work and back because we use my girlfriends car at weekends.

I like the golf and the polo however, they were over the budget. Another question I have is what sort of mileage should I be looking at if I'm buying a car.

Hope all of this makes sense and you can offer a recommendation

Look at Autotrader/PH classifieds, put a max limit of £3k in and fill your boots.

£3K can buy you a lot these days.

Like my MKV Golf GTI

What sort of mileage should I be looking at though. I don't want to buy a car and having nothing but fault with it. I would like a golf though

Condition first with a verifiable service history. Don't worry too much about mileage if it's a well cared for car.

Alfa GT. Just get one with all the bits sorted (upper and lower wishbones, swirl flaps if it's a diesel).

You won't find many other cars which feel as special in that price range.

Great to drive, look amazing (in my opinion) and are surprisingly practical if needed.

My Golf GTI has 136K miles and is bulletproof. These days, that's not high mileage; there were similar cars at £3K that had 210K miles on them

I'm not going to link to the ad but mine is on PH
