Right so guys, I'm stuck at quite the brick wall. To cut a long story short: 2010 Rapide or Audi RS7?? I know you get a lot more practicality, performance, mpg, cheaper maintenance etc with the Audi, but I love astons and the sound of the v12 under the hood.
Any unbiased opinions would be greatly appreciated.
😊

I also forgot to mention, I have 2 fully grown kids and (21 and 18), but regularly go on trips, so what are they like for long hauling? It would mostly be an EDC, but I have a Range Rover for the slightly more difficult jobs considering I live in the countryside.

I'd have the reliable, modern Audi over the relatively old, complicated Aston.

Not that I'm in a position to do either. Nice decision to have, but I think there is only one answer.

Audi = Reliable, solid, fast, the sensible choice.

Aston = Dream car. Potentially more fragile, less reliable, more aggro. But it's an Aston.

As someone with unleaded in my veins, I'd take the Aston Martin in a heartbeat.

You need to decide whether this is a head or heart purchase, then buy the corresponding car.

Yeah that has been my biggest motive towards the Audi really, along with the warranty.
Thank you.

I have the same problem. I have the opportunity to scensoredg Cameron Diaz or Anne Widdicombe and I simply don't know which way to go....

I love Astons but I have seen a few RS7's in London and they look and sound awesome. They look much nicer than the Rapide in my view..

and if you want to make the RS7 sound more aggro you can always change the exhaust system to one of the aftermarket upgrade ones like Remus etc

surely the Audi is going to depreciate like a stone compared to the Aston

and then the main point to consider....

...its an Aston!!!

"What do you drive?

an Audi ZZZZZZZZZZZZ - people fall asleep before you get to the RS7 bit

or an Aston Martin.......

more likely to get Cameron Diaz in an Aston smile

Frankly, the RS7 is ugly. I'd rather have an RS6.

But really? Aston.

I wouldn't suggest an RS7 is any cheaper to run or keep than the Aston.... obvious choice really smile

Username suggests you go with the Aston...

I wouldn't have thought an Audi is many peoples idea of a dream car. (IMHO)

How long do you plan to keep the car?

Come up with an estimate...then consider likely depreciation on the RS7 (lots) vs the (much less, if any) dep'n on the Rapide, and the cost of a good warranty for the Rapide or a couple of big-ish bills if something did fail on the Rapide.
(Day-to-day I would think fuel / tyres will be pretty similar between them - big-turbo's don't half drink when you wake them up!)

I suspect the figures will come out close enough that the Rapide becomes the obvious choice.

Might also be worth putting a call into John McGurk's place - they've developed a very good rep for A-M servicing and retailing, and last I heard he'd got a Rapide as daily driver and loved it...

My opinion is that if you have the option to buy a V12 wrapped-up in a gorgeous body, do so without delay...they aren't making engines like that anymore outside of Italy...

It would be RS7 for me, personally,. Preparing myself for forum gun-shots here but i've never really been that keen on Aston Martin products.

I do like my fast Audi's, on the other hand. Yes, they can definitely feel typically German and very clinical but they do have that ability to kind of do everything in one. I'd also struggle to class an RS7 as boring, as many others no doubt would.

Thanks for all of the responses guys, been really helpful. The reiteration of the depreciation has been something that I've misconsidered. The majority of you vote for the Aston, and I think it is the best choice. However, does anybody know the sort of differences in the yearly upkeep of the vehicle (excluding depreciation)? Also, how much would a new warranty cost on a 2010/11 Rapide?

It suddenly struck me that we've not had any pictures on this thread yet! Of course, as driving gods and powerfully built company directors, we all know what the RS7 and Rapide looks like, so this is just an excuse for a bit of automotive porn.

As nice as the Audi is, I simply wouldn't be considering it alongside the Aston.

Compare the Audi to similar offerings from BMW and Mercedes, sure, but the Aston's in a different league.

Yes, this is true. The aesthetics and road presence is almost unprecedented compared to the Audi, as the Audi looks like, well.. an Audi. The only worry I have is the maintenance and upkeep of the Aston. Are there any serious problems that Rapide's have? And also, what is the leg room like in the back of the Aston. How long would someone be able to seat there (fully grown, 5' 11 adults) before aching. I know that if I were in the back of one I would care not of the discomfort as I would be gripped by the pure driving experience, but for others who maybe aren't so bothered about the car, would the comfort be an issue?
