Cars for sale ?
Discussion
I realised today that I am suffering from a gross misconception with Pistonheads.
I thought a major part of its online prescence was to advertise vehicles for sale ??
I contacted a seller via the email link, requesting further service and owner information - to which I got a sarcastic response ...... it's funny, I thought that's how these things work, you ask some questions and start the process of potential buying.
You advertise an item - a car in this instance, people ask a variety of questions about it, at a basic level to see if it's worth travelling to see - in this instance over 230 miles.
Hey ho, as we say up North "there's nowt so queer as folk"

Ultimately it doesn't sound like a person you want to deal with. Is it a dealer?
I'd rather give my business to someone who I'd be willing to deal with if something went wrong (in the case of a dealer) - just like I'd prefer to sell a car to someone who comes across decent.
Unless you asked a silly question (like "What colour is it?")

That crossed my mind too.

Depends on your question. Also why email? If you are keen on the car, I tend to just pick up the phone, ask questions then go and see the car.
To answer a couple of valid questions - it was a private ad - didn't appear to be a 'kerbside motors' one either. The ad had very minimal information on it. Personally I find it better to have some written descriptions about somethings condition - basically as not everyone is totally truthful about a vehicles history and condition, it's especially easy to fob off verbal questions, at least theres something on record that has been said or claimed.
Additionally the contact numbers on the PH ads's are a screened answerphone service, the vendor calls you back if they wish to.
I asked about the service/owner history on the vehicle - it was a Stuttgart produced sports car from the era with related engine bearing issues. It did state the troublesome IMS had been fixed within last 2 years.
Perhaps my turn of phrase "It does help to have a better mechanical overview first" grossly offended the seller.
I'm in the buying and selling of antiques and antiquities business, to say in our varied profession, we often get a severe interrogation about our commodities is a major understatement !
I would say I went very gently and politely with my enquiries - as I dislike how we are often treated in our world.
Thank you for your comment it's most appreciated.
Would worry, seller is clearly a bit special so would you want to buy a car from them anyway?
I find it odd that people advertise their car for sale on a website and then don't expect to deal with emails. All the more so given the high cost of the "Phonesafe" service on here.
If someone doesn't want to deal with my email or PM then, unless it's something particularly rare, I'll just shrug and move on to the next car. If they message me back to say they're not very comfortable with email and prefer to use the phone that's obviously fine, but not expecting to be contacted by email for an advert on the internet is just odd.
I wonder if they were the same when they advertised in autotrader before the internet, did they not want to be phoned, no please write me a letter instead......

I totally agree with all you said in your post.
Looking for a car for my girlfriend, she's even sent a message from her email address, quite simple request for more information on the car, nothing to offend in it - no response at all as yet.
Could it be a case of 'Sellers Remorse' -advertised for sale but don't really want to sell it.............;)
