Terminating a PCP early
Discussion
My mother in law has a Mercedes on a 4 year PCP which she wishes to end. The 4 years end in November 2017 so I had assumed she would be past the VT point which is normally around month 36 on a 48 month PCP.
However, this is where it gets complicated. It has always been her car but the contract was in her husband's name. Unfortunately he passed away in February 2015. A few months later (September) her FA had the contract changed to her name. The paperwork states the contract was "novated". I'm taking this as meaning it is effectively a new contract and as such the VT point would be calculated from then meaning she'd no doubt need to keep the car right to the end.
We have spoke to Mercedes finance directly and they are being extremely unhelpful. They claim they can't give the VT date and will only provide a figure for buying the car outright or the sum of all remaining payments. I don't understand why Mercedes are being so difficult. I have VTd through both BMW and VW in the past and it was no trouble. Mercedes say you have to email them for a pack then send an application form to terminate then wait to see if you are beyond that point in the contract.
Does anyone have experience of a similar situation?
