I'm now looking for a replacement for my Honda CRV 2.2 ctdi and after several months thinking about it I still haven't found the car I want so I'm hoping you pistonhead lot can help me with some suggestions.

The CRV is a good workhorse, and I like that and I'd be keeping it a while longer but my 4 mile commute isn't kind to it, it basically never even got warm during the winter. Requirements wise I'm looking for something:
- budget around 15k, 20k+ for something that ticks all boxes and is almost new that I can keep a good few years.
- under 40k miles old, can be 1yr or 5 yrs old, or even new if price is right (good finance, etc)
- petrol (or hybrid)
- fun to drive, good feedback when driving
- steering wheel must be round!
- quick-ish, under 8s to 60 ideally but a little slower is ok.
- hatchback or estate or suv (or even an mpv, no saloons as they're a pain. note a coupe body with a hatchback is fine.
- 5 doors, 3 again would be a pain
- 5 seats, we regularly take the grandparents and kid places so 5 seats a must and really need to be adult size in the back.
- reasonable to do a 3-4 hour motorway jaunt in every month or so, most family live >180 miles away.
- I like interesting shaped and bright coloured cars, ones that are only available in monochrome will be immediately written off the list for being boring.

Thoughts please.

How about Mazda CX-5? Wifey has one and when she's not in the car with me it surprises me how much fun it is. Does the family/dog stuff well too.

It's a good shout. I'll put it on the list.

I tried a Vitara S at the weekend - very good but too much wind noise, it would drive me crazy on a 3 hour motorway jaunt.

I've also driven a new Civic Type R which I loved but falls short on many counts; I didn't realise it was only 4 seats for a start!
