Hypothetically....
You have 50k budget - you dont have to spend it all.
The car....
- needs to be fun - summer/weekend use only.
- shouldnt be a money pit - i.e reliable enough to just pick up the keys and use. So with that in mind fairly 'modern'.. mid 90s onwards.
- would ideally not lose any more value. Not exactly looking for an investment, but not wanting it to sink like a stone - so modern stuff is out unless rare.
- has to have some practicality - so a roof is required and some form of rear seat for the dug
- 996 Turbo - decent power, practical, reliable. Would need to be a manual coupe. X50 would be nice.
- 997 Turbo - as above... but newer, faster, less involving, still some way to bottom out on price.
- M3 CSL - not sure if it would feel that special. Love the noise.
- R34 GTR - had 32/33 so may just be a bit 'meh'
- NSX - Really like them.... but ... but.. they were near 10k for the s
ters!
- Aston Martin Vantage V8 - meh
- R8 V8 - meh, hairdresser car :P
Is the 'bubble' going to burst soon? If so... hurry up... as then a 996 GT3 may drop into that price range. I'd be reluctant to sit and wait a year or so for any potential downturn in the market as I'm kicking myself about prices these cars used to be  i.e Will they drop.... or more just level out and continue to hold decent value over the next few years.
Impossible to tell.
My current fav is the 996 TT. First of the watercooled.... fried egg lights and all! Would have loved a 993 TT but that ship has well and truly sailed. Should have just taken out a loan and bought one when I was looking a few years back!

Just needs a new set of wheels.
The dash layout is just amazing on them.

You're not buying this car for any practical or "sensible" reasons. So people saying "you'll not get 3 child seats across the back seat of this car etc" don't matter. This one is entirely down to your taste, so try the ones in budget and buy the one you like the best. Or Just buy the Honda.
Amazing reply WillyNilly.
It would be wonderful to be able to drive every conceivable car that is in price range, but its not practical. I'm looking for suggestions of other cars that are fun, semi practical and <50k.
There are bound the some some I havent considered... and perhaps should be

I'd say a Lotus Evora is a good call:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...
Alfa 4C (I do like these especially after driving one of these with the suspension work by Alfaworks)
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...
Cayman R
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
997 GTS
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
Corvette Z06 every bit as much a drivers car as any Porsche

Out of the list above I'd probably go for the Alfa or Lotus first.

Interesting suggestions.
I had thought of the 4C after posting. I dont know anything about the car bar small engine, carbon tub chassis. Will do some googling. Anyone driven one? I've never even seen one in the flesh.
Caymen - R seems nice, seen a couple on track with us and from that alone there are very capable. PDK etc. Will check prices
Lol-tus - just not keen. Dont like the Evora at all, but do like the Exiges. No space for the dug though, and is prob too much of a trackday special. I know... the GT3 is aswell, but... GT3.
996 GT3 - I have one friend who keeps mentioning that theyre (the whole porsche market) due to re-adjust, and they'll start selling for true market value. This is the car I want, but dont have ~75 cash to fire into it. Maybe in a year or two use whatever car I buy this year as a stepping stone. If GT3 comes down... so would the 996TT for example. Gaaah
If i dont spend this on a car it will get re-allocated to house stuff :/

Supra - I had a 500hp Supra way back in the day LOL Loved it, but I'd be wanting something a bit nicer out of the box without needing to modify it.

West coast boot club ??s

I've always had a lot of fondness for some pork. 997TT would be my choice.
