Hey PHers

Im currently driving a 2012 Golf 1.4 TSi 122 manual and its almost going to be 2 years with this car. I am soon turning 21 years old and I'm looking for a change to a quicker and more enjoyable ride around town. Im looking to sell the car and adding around 1-2k on top

Preferably would like something that looks good, does 0-60 in 8seconds or lower & is generally a pleasure to drive day to day
Coupe/Hatchback/Saloon preferably...
I don't want to go super retro with my choices... something relatively new would be nice & a screen for media/nav would be great. Not particularly fussy over heated seats + leather though
I don't mind an automatic or manual...

Current ideas/choices:
MK6 GTI (wish i could afford an R)
BMW 120i/125i m sport
Subaru WRX-S hatchback

Please suggest some cool rides that may be within my budget that i have not thought about or let me know what you think about my current choices! Thanks

Edit: £1500 quote for 2009 Alfa 159 1.8 Ti, Possibly cheaper with multicar discount :O... I guess 4dr saloons might be the way to go for me!

Hate to sound boring but have you done your checks insurance wise?

Something along of these lines

Renault Megane GT 180bhp

I've done insurance checks on the MK6 Gti and I've been quoted £1800 on a 2011 model but £1600 for an 09 model. It seems like a lot but im already paying £1200 on a 1.4Tsi

Ill get down to checking some quotes on the other cars

I was given a mk6 Golf GTI DSG on loan over Xmas and New year.

I wanted to keep it.

I'd make a list of everything you're interested in, and spam the insurance comparison site(s) to see if there are any oddities that are much cheaper to insure than others.

For instance the saloon version of a given car may be cheaper than the coupe/hatch if the latter is owned more commonly by, well, 21-year-old men who like quick cars. Because they tend to stack them.

Also, if you're ok with an automatic, maybe have a look at the TDI version of VW stuff with the dual-clutch transmission. I'm really not a fan of diesels with a manual, as I don't enjoy the way they deliver performance, but I had a go in a Skoda with about 180bhp and one of those gearboxes, and was quite impressed. It's another avenue of "these aren't the kind of cars that are owned by people who crash cars a lot".

Lucky! Must have been fun to drive

I would definitely be looking at a DSG model. I've also considered a Mk5 GTi but the looks are nowhere near that of the Mk6..

Also on another thread i saw somebody suggest an Alfa romeo 159 1.8Ti.... that car looks sexy as **** and its pretty quick for around 9k

I'd definitely look at a Golf, even diesel. You just have to work out your finances.
I'm an Italian car lover so the alfa would definitely get a look in.

The golf was incredibly accomplished though. We had a lodge in the Romanian mountain's, there was a lot of snow and big hills. With all weather tyres it performed faultlessly. Very comfortable. DSG was quick to adapt to and worked perfectly.

I'm not a VAG fan. My gf has a golf but this was something completely different. A great all rounder.
