Warm(ish) city car for short commute occ long trip £4k

Current commute is 12 miles a day in stop/go traffic, total 12 miles a day, with occasional weekend trips involving several hours on the motorway.
Looking for something suitable, preferably an efficient petrol with plenty of toys e.g. heated seats for when I'm stuck in traffic, reliable and cheap to insure and run.
Current steer is a Bora Tdi but want something that isn't going to blow soot anytime I go near the throttle.
I've had an MX-5 previously but found it was a pain as you're so low that while exiting junctions, you're hard to see behind parked cars.
Been looking at Mini Coopers which seem to tick most boxes, any other recommendations?
