Buying a Car to Export to Pakistan
Discussion
Hi All
An unusual one (maybe)
My cousin owns a car business in Pakistan. He regularly imports high end cars from Japan. He has had a request for a RH drive Ferrari from the UK and was wondering if he buys the car from the UK can he or his buyer reclaim the VAT on the car? Also any advice on the exporting of the car would be appreciated

If he buys a VAT-qualifying one, yes. Otherwise there's no VAT to reclaim.[quote]Also any advice on the exporting of the car would be appreciated

I'd suggest putting it on a boat, probably in a container. I presume he doesn't normally drive them from Japan?
Hahaha - i probably should have asked the question better.......What i meant was from my point of view having never done this before. But I assume he has enough knowledge of the process so i would need to adjust it to UK regulations....
Also how do i find out if a car is VAT qualifying?

The paperwork end of exporting a car from the UK is minimal. You fill in the purple V5C/4 "Notification of permanent export" slip and post it to DVLA, just like wot it tells you on the V5C.https://www.gov.uk/taking-vehicles-out-of-uk/for-1...

It'll usually say "VAT Qualifying" in the ad, or the price will be "+VAT". A car is VAT qualifying from new, right up until an owner doesn't reclaim the VAT when they buy it and charge VAT on selling it, then it's never VAT qualifying again.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
