140mph, 0-60 8.2 secs, (saggy) leather interior, a row of after market vague looking switches (ejector seat, death ray?), awful rear spoiler, dodgy 'sports' exhaust and MOT until May.

I bought a MK2 Golf 1.8 for the grand total of £27 on ebay. Came with about 40 quid juice in the tank as well as 3 months tax and 6 months MOT. It drove a peach and had nothing wrong apart from being listed in the wrong category with no reserve hence the price, and being Maroon (yuk).
Sold it a month later for 300 quid. This was around 6 years ago though.

I reckon this is a game I can win.
1999 Renault Clio, 1.9 non turbo diesel engine. No MOT, £15. (Scrap value £10). Disconnected the EGR valve, and propped a brick on the accelerator for 30 mins. Passed its test with no further work.
It was minging inside - used as a cage for fighting monkeys I think. Filled with old Maccy D and subway s
t. And smelt badly.
I couldn't face cleaning it, so took it to the Turks down the road, who charged me £25 quid to scrape the old burgers off the seats, and jet wash the interior. A few days to dry, and it's much better, though still tends to smell a little after being unused for a few days.
Fitted new door handles after I had had it a while, as the monkeys had ripped those off, and eventually changed the oil (first time in about 60k miles as far as I could see. (Poor thing).
More recently I have changed the cam belt (not sure it was worth it, but it's going to break at a really inconvenient time if I don't).
Did 20k miles in it last year with basic servicing (something it's not been used to). Not really put a foot wrong. And just passed it's MOT again this year, at the cost of a spring.
It's pretty amazing - a full 65 BHP when it was new and pristine - so prob about 40 now. But it keeps up with traffic due to a huge engine in a small car, and an amazing amount of torque. You don't really notice it's inadequate power levels.
And the best thing - it does about 500 miles to a tank of fuel which is about £40 - 50 quid. I reckon 60 odd to the gallon. And it would run on chip oil if required. Perfect machine for a stingy old git, who is not a follower of fashion. (And ask me if I care where I park it.... Go on)
