gt86 or cayman 2.7 auto (prezzie to myself)
Discussion
Not a huge amount to choose between them - neither are the most fun 2 seaters available but you've already said it's not your primary focus so that doesn't come into the equation.
Personally would go Cayman as it's a Porsche and i'd imagine would suffer less depreciation than the GT86/BRZ.

Depends how much engine power you feel is required for a 'fun' car.
For that classic feeling that really gets you connected to the car and road, I think a GT86 is hard to beat. I'm guessing you liked it a lot hence why you are comparing it to a Boxster?
Although I agree that if you are going down the route of Porker ownership, a 911 would be similar running costs with near enough zero depreciation.

Cayman.
No other reason than I encountered a complete tool in a GT 86 & when I posted in the 'Knob' thread. I suggested, if he was having a time of life crisis , to do it properly & buy a Porsche!!
Not suggesting you are having one, but Toyota v Porsche?....... No contest imo
I guess i may be having a mid life crisis as my other half keeps telling me i am,i cant grow long hair and no chance of pulling a young blonde (other hair colour available) so a sportscar is the only thing i can do No other reason than I encountered a complete tool in a GT 86 & when I posted in the 'Knob' thread. Thanks for the replies so far and yes i did like the gt86 which out of the two the sensible elf on my shoulder is telling me to go for but the devil on the other side says porsche.
Number 3 on my original list was the nissan 370z but i havent test driven one but i see on autotrader there are quite few within budget, are they reliable?

You're very close to a gen 2 pdk Cayman which will be by far and away a better drive than the gen 1 slushbox. Can't comment on a GT86.

Surely Porsche + auto = 928...
A good friend of mine has a 928s and my days of classic car ownership (scimitar/stag/sprint etc) have gone.Im far to lazy to be tinkering and tbh ive never been a fan..thanks

Cayman. Look for a Gen 2 with PDK. The GT86 with auto is SLOOOWWWWWW
Slow compared to what though? i have a alfa 156v6 as my daily and its not fast or does it handle well.0-60 times for the gt86 are approx 7.3 secs (youtube videos) or 8.0 secs as claimed by toyota which is fast enough for me..
Ive had some slow cars in my time but enjoyed owning them immensley (anglia, chevette, mini, capri and quite a few others, infact my hillman imps were terrific fun)

The auto in the GT86 really dampens the entire driving experience. You really need the manual in that, my wife and I test drove one (auto). The PDK is an extremely good transmission.0-60 times for the gt86 are approx 7.3 secs (youtube videos) or 8.0 secs as claimed by toyota which is fast enough for me..
