I've been pondering buying a new car (first one ever) and I'm probably overthinking the whole process, but was wondering whether there's a time of year when dealers are keener to sell, more willing to compromise or do a deal.

I'm looking to buy now or in next couple of months.

I've been looking at new Dacias, also Suzuki Celerios, Nissan Micras, Kia Picantos, Hyundai i10s - that kind of thing (cheap, economical, can fit a wheelchair in back) and will want to trade in a car worth about £2k ish and pay the balance in cash.

The priority for me is getting something which will free me from the MOT/repairs cycle for a few years and will be relaible after that.

Doesn't have to be 'brand' new, maybe up to 500 miles on clock and as much more than 2 years as possible since first registered.

Are dealers going to have a 'better' time to sell or does it not really matter at this budget end of the market?

December is quiet. Sales people want to do deals, not necessarily the dealership but a salesman is more likely to fight your corner.

If you want to buy a Dacia, I'm your man hehe

^^^^ what he says from what I've heard

Also look into taking their finance to get the dealer/manufacturer contributions and then settling it the day after collection/in the cooling-off period

You won't get an Auto Duster until Feb/March so don't expect any special deals (not that you'll get a great deal above the deposit contribution etc on the finance deals)

My local Mercedes garage always try to get me interested in a new car in April and October, the month after the new reg rush. They are always telling me they have cash incentives from Mercedes and are keen to register new cars.

The day after boxing day might be good as well.

December and January are good months to shop. I find that sales managers are usually a little more accommodating and ready to do a deal then, especially in January when the private buyers are mostly skint and the fleet buyers are awaiting the end of the financial year.

Thanks everyone - I think it'll probably be January now - Critsmas fair creeps up on you.

On the issue of Trade-in or WeBuyAnyCar --- which is generally better? Is there any sort of 'rule' on that?

Car to be traded is a Fiat Panda 58, less than 20k mileage, full dealer service history.

I've seen similar on Autotrader for up to £2.5k so thought £2k from a dealer would be possible but I could be very wrong.

TBH if they are selling for 2.5k on auto trader you will be looking at 1500 quid at best part ex

Stick it on a free advertising site and try selling it yourself first of all.

If not if you have a local car dealer ask if he will sell it for you if he takes some commission.
