I'm looking to spend around 7-8k on a fun car and I'm torn between something like this

and something like this

MPG isn't a issue for me as it won't be used for commuting.
I've always liked Skylines but a GTR is out of budget. A heavily tuned GTST isn't. It's RWD and not all wheel drive like a GTR, but I still like the idea of one which has already had a lot of money spend on it. That one in the link is claiming 500BHP and the RB25DETT is meant to be a great engine standard so with forged pistons etc it should hopefully be robust.

The Boxster is more refined but has a lot less power. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that the Skyline there will very VERY quickly become a huge money pit. There are lots of problems listed that are notorious with all Jap imports that cost a bucket to fix, Skylines are very expensive if they start going wrong. It also worries me a little bit that the Boxter was last serviced over 3 years ago too, although I'm no expert on Porsches.

Patience is a virtue when looking for a car, especially so in this kind of market. Be careful.

Out of those two I'd take the GTST as it seems to have been more loved than the Boxster, they're very different cars it just depends on how you want your fun.

I like the idea of getting a pre modded car rather then doing it myself if the mods are good. I know the skyline will be good in a straightline and fun on the track but not sure how they are on a country B road.
