I'm looking at buying a car, I've had 2 years experience on a company policy from work so I don't have any NCB, I have 7k to spend on a car, and 3k for insurance. I will be doing 15k miles per year max. I want something that is fuel efficient, looks good and fun to drive.

So far I have had a look at a Seat Leon FR TDi BTCC kit with 80K on the clock which is 7K and the insurance is 2.7k.

I'm also thinking of getting a 320D with leather heated seats instead.

I was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions that can come within the price range?

I had a Ibiza 2.0 TDI FR & the insurance was only a tiny bit more than a 1.2 fabia, due to the weight difference id imagine it will be just about as quick as the Leon. It definitely felt quicker than 143 hp!

Try a quote, my old one was YD62YEJ.

Other than that you could get a Alfa giulietta 170 diesel for the same price as the leon (probably less now,) no idea about insurance though as my old one was petrol (still cheaper to insure than a cooper d though.)

Cheers

Thanks dan, just had a quick look at the Ibiza FR and the insurance is 2.5k for me and the nearest one to me is going for 5k and is pretty standard. However I may have look at the alfa.

IIRC some insurance companies may well let you use 'your' NCB from the company car (suspect you'd have to be named on the policy)... any insurance bods on here confirm or deny?

I was thinking this as well. Especially given the cars the OP is looking at.

I'm glad I'm now at an age where my road tax is more than my insurance.

I'm also thinking a scirocco 170 bhp 60k miles for 10k it's got the winter pack and pan roof. Because I plan to sell the car after a year and hoping not to lose too much. Anyone think it's a good idea?
