Hybrid company car (specifically Passat GTE)
Discussion
Looking at keeping it for about 4 years, at the moment I get fuel paid for with a fuel card. My personal mileage is slightly below the tipping point where I should be claiming it back but its about £20 a month which I'd rather pay than have to administer the alternative method.
BIK savings staying with private fuel paid for would be around £270 per month for tax year 2017-2018, so its very worthwhile.

I have a Golf GTE, so similar drive train. I have had it since mid April and the have done nearly 13,000 miles in it.
Long term average (according to the car) is 45mpg. As I do a lot of motorway miles and it averages mid 30's at cruising speeds.
On my commute to / from work <20miles I can get to and from in full electric, so if I am home based I use no fuel.
More than happy with it, exceedingly well put together and the ACC makes a huge difference to plodding up and down the motorway.

What about the Mondeo in Titanium or Vignale form, it's rated as a better car but not sure what the BIK rate is, or here are some other alternatives.
Citroen DS5
Infiniti Q50
Lexus GS300
Mercedes C300h/C350e
None of the rest offer the same BIK benefits due to the fact they run a larger engine, the co2 values are much higher than the 1.4 TFSI in the Passat.Citroen DS5

I wouldn't bank on getting close to the fuel figures unless the car is fully charged before each journey and the bulk of your journeys are in town.
The real world economy doesn't matter to me, I don't pay for my fuel. We will be installing a charging point at work though so I can get the most out of it.hepy said:
The tax rates change on hybrids in 18 mths, I would check the tax savings in future years as you are looking at a 4 year deal.
What information do you have on the tax changing? The Autumn budget on the 23rd will clarify things a little, but all I can see at the moment is the BIK increasing on my current car (A4) and the Passat GTE by 2% in 2017, so swings and roundabouts. I'm going for a 3 year deal now, too. A raft of EV/PHEV's will be coming out in the next few years and I don't want stuck in outdated technology.Jasper3.0 said:

Glad to hear you;re happy with it. Did consider the Golf but to spec it near the Passat it actually works out dearer. Would ideally like the Golf Estate or A4 Avant but no sign of either being announced any time soon.Long term average (according to the car) is 45mpg. Not keen on a Hyundai, certainly doesn't trump a Passat.Hyundai have been advertising IONIQ.

I was looking at the future BIK rates, over the next 3 tax years the GTE would go up by 9% and the A4 I have currently by 7% so I'm still considerably better off.ELUSIVEJIM said:

330e with a half decent spec is far too expensive.
I have a Mercedes C350e - Bik is currently 7% as below 50Co2 - I have the premium plus which gets a lot of nice spec plus is rated at sub 6 second 0-60. Not the latest in handling but a decent steer and a very nice place to be.
I looked at the GTE Golf and Passat and neither we in the same area when it came to fit, finish, spec etc. I have driven the BMW 330e and it was comparable but long lead times and was more expensive.

Actually thought the Merc fell outside the 7% BIK, its pushing the budget a bit far for me though.I looked at the GTE Golf and Passat and neither we in the same area when it came to fit, finish, spec etc. I have driven the BMW 330e and it was comparable but long lead times and was more expensive.

mine is the saloon with 17" wheels, if you want the estate you have to get either the 18" if you go for premium plus (something to do with the panoramic roof and weight) or go for the standard and stay on 17" wheels and you stay under the magic 50Co2 (iirc its 49)Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
