MG ZT 260 V8 or Clio Trophy
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm in a predicament and don't know which way to go...
I have some money spare and want to get something I can enjoy, whilst also retaining the value so that if need be in the future I can not make a loss, excluding maintenance etc.
I have narrowed my searches down to two cars that I really like, the MG ZT 260 (V8 mustang engined one) or the Clio 182 Trophy. Both are similar 0-60 wise but the ZT is obviously a bit more bulky and thirsty.
Do I go V8 and get that incredible noise or do I go hot hatch and nippy 182?
The ZT is in my books a great looking car and the 260 is certainly a bit of a sleeper, the Clio looks a tad boring but with those dampers and punchy engine a great driver.
Whats more likely to hold/improve on value?
Any advice would be great as I don't know what to do

forget about future value, if you buy a 12 year old rover and use it daily it will quickly wear out/go pop if it wasn't on the verge of already doing so when you acquired it.
assuming you are of reasonably limited means, i suggest you buy the Renault for (a) much lower fuel consumption and (b) better availability of parts
if its a garaged/weekend car, still the Renault IMO

I like both but they are chalk and cheese. I own a 260 and having had the car over eight years its been reliable apart from the orange clip, £1.30 part. If you think it could be the V8 have a look on the two-sixties site. I do not see the 260 ever being a asset money wise but it need not be a money pit if you buy with the right information to hand.
What ever way you choose get the right car and you will have smiles with every mile.

Your choices are so different it's hard to say :-) The clio would be a solid investment in that I certainly don't think you'd lose money if you came to sell, as long as it has its original suspension etc. The MG is a little out there.. they seem to be holding their value quite nicely at the moment but who knows. Personally if it were me I'd go for a BMW 645ci manual as a sort of compromise! (not on your list I know!)
