OK so a mate of mine is between car's at the moment as he just sold his privately and his new car arrives in January. He is looking for a runaround for circa £7-10k and hopes to add around 1200 miles to the car until then.

I suggested he gets himself a used high spec'd MINI for circa £10k as he would probably not take much of a hit on it.

Any other suggestions chaps?

If he doesn't want to risk his capital, why not just buy a rotter for £500 and sufficient remaining MOT and enough meat left on the tyres to see him through?

He sometimes carry's clients (1 at a time) in his car - Pick up from and to the train station so a banger aint an option - gotta be semi decent.

So spend £1k on a Lexus LS400 and do the above.

I'd look at a desirable car around 10 years old with sensible millage.

Something like an E46 M3, Honda S2000, Porsche Boxster, make sure you buy a good one with the right spec. Good examples of desirable cars will always sell.

Why not just buy a waft mobile 7 series for about 2k and save about 8K.

Fine for clients and doesn't matter if you taking a hit at 2K.

If he's ok with a 2 seater,a BMW Z4 3.0SI Coupe seem to be holding firm on price.
I bought one back in may and it cost a little bit more than similar ones I looked at 2 years ago!

Would you buy one for 3 months though? Suppose it all depends on how risk averse one is, but it'd be sod's law that the thing would generate a bill of several thousand in the meantime

True but any car could do that, at least with a car of that age used parts and knowledgeable specialists should hopefully be around.

I've got a nice spec 2008 MINI Convertible for sale at £5500 that needs to go. If the chap kept it past January till the Spring, he'd move it on for £6500.

Jaguar S or X-Type? Xj6? All look respectable/mason-tastic yet can be got for buttons.

+1 for that idea!

I bought a Z4 Coupe in June 2014 and sold it for a few hundred more than I paid in May 2016 - result!
