The better half has decided she wants a new car, unfortunately all our fluid cash has gone on bricks and mortar so it's going to have to be a 'renter/finance' set up, and this is all foreign to me having always just paid cash on the nose for cars.
The short list at present appears to include the Vauxhall Mokka, Mazda CX3 and Renault Captur, petrol models, test drives lined up for the weekend. driving
No real idea what is going to be the best way of funding it so looking for advice.
She's got her MINI as deposit if needed, worth about £2k and is comfortable at £200ish a month for 3 years and is happy with a 6000 mile a year cap. rotate
All the above seem well within reach at those numbers but if they can be made more attractive it'd be nice, and it's not a definitive list if something similar can be found and she likes the look of it, driving dynamics, performance, handling are all irrelevant, although running costs are. wink

My Dads got a Mokka. I really wouldn't recommend it. The CX3's look rather smart though.

We are looking at very similar cars, Renault Captur top of the list for extra £500 deposit contribution and low rate finance. The Mokka is stupidly over priced imo.

If you like Yeti's, Skoda are doing 0% finance, £1000 deposit contribution, £500 preloaded Mastercard (for fuel but you can spend it on anything) until the end of the month.

Any particular reasons, other than the price point. scratchchin

There seems to be a few good deals on the Skodas at the moment.

Nah, I just hate it. Seriously though, it feels very cheap, the dash is awful, not that refined. Oh, and it's a Vauxhall.

No love for the Yeti I'm afraid, too square and Van like were the comments.
Similarly anything German has been ruled out for being too dull and 'black' inside.

Got my wife a Mokka Tech line 1.6cdti 136bhp, £800 deposit and £148p/m on contract hire with free met paint. Really can't complain for the money and it's OK. Not a class leader but does its job and she loves it 👍

Anyone driven a Captur, specifically the 0.9, I'd not put 2+2 together and realised that it was only a 0.9l 3 cylinder turbo, it's what I would consider a biggish car, is it as painfully slow as I'm expecting?
The better half isn't exactly a speed demon but I'm not sure she's going to like anything slower than her current Cooper which was a massive drop from her Boxster. driving

I had a Mokka for 3 months as a courtesy car. It was miles better than the Astra they'd tride to land me with (needed a diesel).

At first I hated the Mokka. Then by the time it went back, I quite liked it. The 1.7 was fairly nippy.

Had the same engine on holiday in a Sandero

It was woefully slow...(maybe I was expecting too much?) especially as I was trying to make it sit at a constant 150k on the deserted motorways - it lost significant speed (dropping as low as 100km ph as soon as you hit a hill, even changing down didn't help!) - unsure whether the low quality South African petrol was a factor though?

Very efficient on light throttle and below 40mph though

"Had the same engine on holiday in a Sandero"

The TCe90 turbo eco-three-pots seem to be liked on the Dacia Forum, but I haven't driven one.

The Renault DCi90 diesels in the Renault/Dacia range do pull well, have about 75% more torque, and will sit at 90mph all day for 65 mpg. Zero VED (at the moment) on some models.

But not everyone likes diesel, or Renaults. Mine is doing fine, so far...

Well a day trudging round the dealers was fun. rolleyes
Vauxhall first...
The Mokka is now replaced with the Mokka X, new dash (a lot better than the old one) and a new front end, but prices are up and that's why prices of the old model are discounted, went for a drive round the block in the old 1.4t (the engines haven't changed) couldn't really grumble, quality was about what I expected.
Computer system was down so couldn't crunch any numbers. rolleyes
On to Renault....
Salesman only wanted to shift his on site stock, all diesel, even though we had stated we want a petrol, went for a drive in a diesel, not that bad but the way the Mrs drives it'd be back for a new DPF in 6 months.
A lot 'funkier' than the Vauxhall but a lot cheaper inside.
Mazda next....
They had called earlier in the day to say the Demo car was unavailable, not a great start but it was 100 yards away from Renault so went for a look anyway.
The nicest of the 3 so far, inside and out, but also the most expensive and no stock of the spec the Mrs wants on site, they had the best coffee of the day. coffee
Called into the local Citroen/Nissan dealer as that was next door....
Juke ruled out for being minging, and same for the Cactus although I like it. paperbag
And a special mention for just how poorly presented 90% of the stock was at the Evans Halshaw branch, inside and especially outside the showroom, cars parked mirror touching mirror on every square foot of land, but ironicly enough one car you could walk round was a used Mokka, a gopping spec of metallic poo brown with matching leather interior, but it was £10k, 3 years old and half the price of a new one, this started the discussions of 'is a new one a good idea'. scratchchin
So back to Vauxhall, salesman thought it was his lucky day seeing us return, but we then hit him with the 2nd hand spec we wanted.....a bit 'rare' and seeing as we can see the same Network Q stock he can there's about 2 in the country hehe
So now the hunt is on for a needle in a haystack and the best source to finance £10k. rotate
