Hello fellas. I've lurked around here for a long time, post very rarely but I could use your opinions on this one.
I'll be in the market for a new car catkins Xmas, been saving for a long time and really wanna get myself something smart that I'm really happy with. I'll be buying cash, so it won't be brand new although age really isn't a deciding factor. I have a few that I'm looking at that seem to fit my criteria but I'm struggling to find many that tick all the boxes.

Budget will be around 9-10k, and ideally I'd like the following:

Has to be diesel, it'll be used for daily commute of 70-80 miles so I'd like to get decent MPG
Has to look smart, nothing ugly
Nice comfy interior, my commute can be anything from 40-120mins each way depending on traffic so I want a nice place to be.
I'd like an auto, my mate had a DSG and it was lovely. Plus I'm tired of gearchanges all the time in traffic.

Top of my list, and budget is a 335d M Sport I realise I'm looking at 100k miles but that's hopefully not an issue being a BMW an all. This car has everything but the MPG is slightly below what I'd ideally want. Although I'm sure I could tolerate it given the performance.
Second option is a Golf GTD.

Other than these two, I'm pretty stuck..

Any opinions on the above, or better suggestions?

Cheers fellas! ??

Edit: forgot to add to the list a 123d M Sport.

Epic lurking!

I'd be looking at something bigger than a 3 series or Golf for that sort of commute.

Passat CC DSG?

I'm bias but A CLK320cdi is more than capable of doing the commute, it's very comfortable & has both the performance side of things to, or if you want a bit more economy the 220cdi is worth a look.
If you get the sport model then you get the orthopedic seats which are great.

Cheers for the detailed reply. The CLK looks a good shout, but I'm not too keen on the shape from the door backwards. Although it did prompt me to look at the C class variants. C250 CDi Sport is a lovely looker, but the interior looks a bit bland.
I never even considered a Jag, I always assumed they were out of my price range especially these newer models, but I'll look into them now. As for the A5, a mate at work bought one last year. He got the 2.0T and had nothing but issues with it. Oil consumption issue, after throwing money at it in the first 3 months of ownership he sent it back to the dealership.
I've started looking at all sorts now, everything from a DS3 HDi up to the aforementioned 335D. Such a difficult choice, which is why I normally buy a cheap runaround for a "just for now" car and end up keeping them 2-3yrs, haha.

It's interesting that you've mentioned the DS3, my neighbour has a DS5 HDi and from the limited time I've spent in it I've been impressed, the interior is especially nice.

DS4 but the Auto box is one to keep an eye on as you can't change the gearbox fluid apparently.
