300c touring vs mondeo st220 estate
Discussion
Hi, 1st post on here so not sure what feedback I'll have. Right after months of brain rattling over what car to swap to I've narrowed it down to 2. This past year I've had a vrs which I wasn't impressed with, a jeep commander a brilliant 4x4 but astronomical fuel bills and a vectra vxr which I'm now finding too small. Me and the Mrs have agreed on an estate that can hold the two dogs and 2 kids in comfort. The 2 I've narrowed it to couldn't be further apart. A mondeo st220 estate or a chrysler 300c touring. Having really liked my jeep the chrysler just seemed a smaller cheaper to run quicker version of. I've seen one with 82k on the clock lots of history on a 58 plate which is the facelift but only having a standard radio I'll have to put some money into it to gain a dab and sat nav. This car is priced at 6k.
The mondeo I've seen has 68k on a 06 plate with again full history and a couple of upgrades in better alloys and straight through twin exhaust system, priced at 3 and a half. Again a x2 din would be added. Having had a 2 litre petrol and a 2.2 ghia x diesel before I have experience with the smaller engine models.
I know the mondeo will cost more to run but seem to me they are very reliable. The chrysler is the cheaper bigger car to run but clearly a tad slower which isn't the end of the world as a remap could improve that.
After a while of debating this to myself I really can't decide between these 2 cars. Any advice to make my mind up would be greatly appreciated as this is really giving me headache. Thanks in advice.

Define "reliable". I've had a few Mondeos. They rarely have a big show-stopping failure, but chances are small things will go wrong fairly often. Suspension components especially.I'd still go for the ST220 though, easily! They're lovely cars . But I would maybe look for one without too many "upgrades" that suggest it has been ragged.
