Hi all.

I'm currently looking to replace my ageing 2007 Alfa Romeo 147. I'm looking for a reasonably quick coupe. At the moment, my preferred choice is the Audi TT mk2. For my budget I can get a nice 2011 model 2.0 TFSI S-Line. I have also considered the BMW z4 E89 and the Nissan 370z. The z4 that I like is the z28i, which is unfortunately not within budget. I have mostly discounted the 370z due to the high fuel consumption and tax. I much prefer the looks of the 370z over the 350z so wouldn't consider a 350z close to my price limit. I do around 15k miles PA.

My requirements:

- Petrol
- Coupe - any number of seats is fine
- Reasonable tax and fuel economy
- Usable boot
- Would prefer 2010 or later but would consider 2009 and 2008

Is there anything else I should consider? I have driven a TT and liked it but none of the others yet.

S2000 GT with a hardtop? Not a coupe of course, but a nice car. Perhaps an SLK might work for you too? Perhaps an Audi A5 is worth a look too?

ETA: sorry, wasn't reading carefully enough - Audi A5 though remains a good choice I reckon.

1-series coupe with a 3 litre engine - turbo or non-turbo - both come in budget

How about a Z4M Coupe - fantastic car with no depreciation ( you would also get a Z4 3.0si best example that you would lose no money on)

The Z4 coupe's are also quite rare that makes them more desirable.

I'd take a look at the 265bhp Scirocco R as well, they're just in budget.

Thanks all so far

A5 and 1 series - have considered both, but although I suspect this will be controversial, they don't seem as "special" as the three I list above

z4m coupe is a great shout, good looking car, they do seem depreciation proof and I could get a great example with my budget. What are the key things to look for? Will add this to my search along with the Scirocco R. One of my colleagues had a diesel R-line which was nice barring the engine.

Welshbeef, some good cars on there but I think most are older than I would like.

Also I should mention cruise control is essential, which discounts a lot of TT's and all of the Nissan's that aren't GT models.

I like the first one and the second - I honestly don't think I've ever seen one on the road.

Why not the 23i Z4 if you like the 28I ? I've not driven one recently the last one I drove was an 18i.

TT can have cruise retro fitted but I would take a Z4 any day, if a 1series doesn't feel special then neither will a scirocco.

Surely you want some POWER not a pea shooter of an engine.

23i is i6 with 201bhp, 28i is i4t with 241bhp. I also assume the fuel economy on the 28i will be better.

Would a Cayman not be on the list? A little older but surely a better proposition?

I do like the Z4 Coupe too.

Just wish I did not need four seats!

23i would be closer to the 14k budget, you might get a high mile SE 35i though.

OP, I am with TR4Man on this! laugh

But I think a GT86 might be just slipping into your budget now, and they drive pretty well - just not as much grunt as a Z4 Coupe (so I bought the Z4 Coupe)!
