Yes.... i considered an R32... hehe
The wife's car is leaving us soon. 2002 Lexus RX.

We have three kids, but the Lexus is dull and does only 15 mpg..
Default choice is RX400h.

Our requirements are:
Automatic (MUST)
Quite fun to drive
Looks good
FULL Leather seats (MUST)
Bluetooth
Good economy (MUST)
Low tax
Low ish mileage but anything over 90k is a definite no
4+ doors
Decent boot
Sat nav (MUST, just dont ask why)
FSH
2008 or newer
High ish driving position preferred but no Cayenne Turbo

Budget is £12000 but can stretch to £14k depending on part ex values.

We have considered:
RX400h (dull)
Focus Ecoboost estate

Any help appreciated smile

Fun, highish driving position, pick one!

The Focus estate is a decent pick i'd say, i had a mk3 focus, which despite the tall gearbox and somewhat underpowered 1.6 (non turbo obviously) was a good amount of fun. If you can get a 1.6 ecoboost (or ST) estate, that would be a good amount of fun, yet incredibly practical

Maybe not in this colour & you'll have to haggle but a Focus ST Estate can be bought for the top end of your budget.

More sensible 1.6 Titanium X

That S-Max is pretty much spot on. I had one on loan for three weeks a few years ago, and it was a very good drive for such a big old bus.

What is your definition of good fuel economy? Unless you do a big mileage it doesn't make a huge difference and petrol is cheaper than diesel.....

The first three.... i'm afraid its an automatic no.

Reasons being:
They all do less than 15mpg real world, let alone 40

Insurance will be a pain for a woman with three kids using it for SDPBC

Tax is a pain

Too old

Liking the Jag XF though. A serious contender!!

The CLS seems a bit overpriced and not really my cup of tea either

335i Touring? Not sure it fits all the criteria, but might be a fun call.

No idea if they are fun but I like the look of a Mitsubishi Outlander, the spec would be in budget

Well it's closer to the Focus than the Kuga & is a better steer, it also has 200bhp for when you have to drive it so it makes a lot of sense plus it'll still be decent on fuel tax & insurance costs, so go for it.

2010 240bhp Petrol Version which uses the ST engine but it has half leather but that does mean you get air cooled seats

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

With only an £80.00 difference in tax & a 12mpg difference in favour of the diesel I'd still go for the Petrol version with fuel at a reasonable £5.14 for both types of fuel & your wife's low mileage because I say take the economy hit .

I think your list of requirements just made it impossible for the words "fun" and "interesting" to appear in the same thread!

Unless you think a C4 Cactus is fun and interesting (I may not agree..........)!

But until you can bin the stickers in the window explaining that you have a "grandchild on board" or are powered by fairy dust it isn't looking good................!
